Maybe you should speak to both florists, tell them you are still making up your mind between the two, and see if you can get some wiggle room on price point?  I think it’s just a fact of business that vendors will start with a higher price than work their way down–I had huge sticker shock after our initial floral/decor quote, but we were eventually able to work it out.  

I don’t think it’s nuts to use 2 florists but I think it could be stressful to rely on a friend/family to drive 2 hrs on your wedding day to pick up the flowers, esp if you’re not a go with the flow type.  If that person is also a guest, you’ll have to consider if they will have enough time to get ready and dressed for your wedding on top of all the driving.  It may sound like a decent plan now, but you really don’t want to make anything too complicated for yourself or your guests the day of the wedding!!  So, if you can negotiate with one of the florists, save your sanity and leave it to the pros.
