WeddingBells2014:  Your mother is mistaken. White is commonly used when the bride has an off-white dress. Tables still have white cloths, men still wear white shirts, guests use white napkins, brides carry white flowers etc.

You just have to look and see how the things go together.  Sometimes, white and off-white can make the off-white item look dingy or discolored.  As long as you like how the two colors look together, I don’t think there’s any reason to not use them!

I don’t think there is a rule.  I don’t think your mom is right.  It’s just how you feel about it.

Personally,  I will be wearing ivory.  I will not have any white in my wedding because I don’t want a combination of the two.  Even the frosting on my cake will be ivory.

My little flower girl got cold so we let her wear a white sweater with her ivory dress – it was completely fine

Also here are more white/ivory images – my flower girls in natural lighting and also my husband had an ivory tie and vest over a white shirt – table clothes (white) were also completely fine …
