I hadn’t heard of Duolingo before this post, but I checked it out and got the app.

I don’t know if I’ll set any goals with anyone at this point, but if I like it I think I’d be fine with doing this with you.

I’m kind of excited for this. I’ve been looking for a way to learn a new language without having to spend a bunch of money. This looks like a great place to start.

Just downloaded it this weekend! I want to brush up on my French. I used to be really good in high school but I haven’t used it since.

I also haven’t heard of this app before this post, but I just downloaded it and started working through the French lessons.  I was taught French growing up but have never had much luck speaking fluently.  I’d love to set some goals!

@fvsoccer:  I’m interested! I just signed up, but I don’t think I’ll have time to start doing it until the end of January because my schedule is just so jam-packed currently.

@fvsoccer:  I decided to learn Spanish. I’m at level 4 right now. I did have a four or five day streak going, but I didn’t do any lessons or strengthen my skills yesterday. I’ll try to do some today, though.

I like Duolingo so far. I’m glad I saw your post.

@fvsoccer:  I’m sure it helps! Any little bit would help. I’m currently using much of my free time to study for an exam, so I already have something extra to focus on, lol. Then I’m taking a vacation once that’s over, and after that I can set aside time for language acquisition. I’d love to refresh my German and learn French and Spanish!

What are you up to in Germany? Is it study abroad or a job? Have you made friends there? I know Germans can be pushy sometimes about wanting to practice English, but if that’s the case then you should be pushy about wanting to practice German. 😉

@fvsoccer:  I figured I’d start with Spanish since I already know some, but I’ve had my eye on Italian too. I think I’ll start when I’m further into the Spanish lessons.

I’ve thought about doing the French lessons so that I could try to enjoy some of the French shows on MHZ Int’l, but I think I’ll have to hold out on that. I have the time for the lessons, but not the mental energy lol.

I wish they offered Swedish lessons. I would love to learn more Swedish.

Update: I’ve been doing a few lessons each day. I’ve leveled up again as well. These lessons are very helpful. I’m already understanding more of the dialogue on the telenovelas that I watch from time to time.

I opened the app not too long ago and it looks different. They removed the “strengthen skills” function, and I’m not too happy about that. The app seems to have taken a step backward, but that’s alright, I guess. I hope they change it back.

I don’t know if anyone else is still participating, but I figured I would give an update anyway:

I had a 43 day streak going, but that ended just a few hours ago. Back to day one. Maybe I’ll try to beat my streak.

I got used to the slight changes they made to the app. I tried the website to see how that works, but the app runs smoother on my device, so that’s what I use.

I’m still glad that I’m doing this. My Spanish is getting better nearly everyday.

Hello,

I’m a beginner in learning to speak French and German.  My cousin invited me to visit them  and I was really having a hard time communicating with them because I only knew how to speak English.  I decided to take a French lesson in order to better communicate with them.  http://learnperfectfrench.com  this site offers demo video and a free trial course too.
