Mini ham and cheese sandwiches always go quick at family forays. Smithfield Farms even makes sweet potato biscuits that are out of this world! There are recipes online too.
@medsie35: That sounds like a great idea! Our venue won us over with amazing meatball apps, so I'd second that one :)
I love Southern style comfort food! Here are my suggestions for apps: hushpuppies, fried green tomatoes, sweet potato fries, or sweet potato fritters!
tomato soup shots with grilled cheese wedges or tater tots with a variety of dipping sauces

Hello everyone,
I am meeting with a family friend who has taken on the catering of our weddding (she has catering experience) this weekend to discuss our wedding menu and I'm hoping you ladies may have some good ideas.
We are having a very laid back wedding ceremony and reception in May. Think hay bales for seating-mason jar glasses-burlap table runners-big open lodge-bandanas for napkins-homemade pies instead of cake-kind of wedding. :) I really like the idea of a comfort food menu so this is what I have come up with to talk to her about:
Buttermilk fried chicken
Fried Fish (caught by the FI)
Baked Beans
Coleslaw
Homemade Mac and Cheese
Biscuits with regular butter and molasses butter
So my question is, what kind of appetizers would fit in with this theme? I would like three, fairly simple, affordable appetizers. I kind of like the idea of deviled eggs and black bean and corn salsa with tortilla chips. What do you guys think? Any other ideas?
FYI: We do not have any vegetarians attending the wedding, so we don't have to take that into consideration
