@veryberry13:  it depends on the question. If it is asking advce about which dress you like best, which invitation style, etc, i try to decide before seeing what everyone else says so they dont sway my opinion. But if the question is more personal I like to read responses first so I don’t repeat what others have said.

I usually read comments before, because sometimes the OP adds additional info.

Depends on the question and how long the thread has been up.

I almost always read comments before posting (unless, like the PP said, it’s a post about which ring you like better or something like that). I find it annoying when someone only reads the first post in a 3 page thread, and completely misses the OPs 4 updates since then, because it reaaaally slows the conversation down.

    It depends on my mood.

Sometimes when the OP asks for opinions, I intentionally don’t read any comments before posting, because I don’t want them to influence what I was about to say.

Then if I read them and I feel it offers me an insight to the situation I missed when first commenting, I’ll likely comment again, citing whichever comment(s) I found particularly enlightening.

I will usually scan for the “OP box” for updates before posting, though.

I look through the thread to see if there are updates before I write anything, especially for sensitive subjects.

If it’s something where the OP will update then I usually read the comments before I post mine (at the very least I skim them). If it’s a thread that just asks for a quick comment or that doesn’t have a lot of back and forth action (e.g. “how long have you been engaged?” “what is your colour scheme?” “what cake flavour would you prefer?” etc.) then I just comment and then skim through the comments before me. Obviously it makes a difference how long the thread has been up and how long the thread is.

Depends on the post. If an answer pops into my head right away, I’ll comment. Sometimes I don’t even read the other comments and I close the tab once I’ve commented. Other times, or if I’m bored, I’ll read the comments. If it looks like a controversial thread, I pretty much always read the comments for the entertainment value. Then I may or may not comment.

I usually skim the comments first before I respond just to make sure the OP didn’t update or that thread didn’t devolve into something completely different.

Depends on the topic and how long the thread is, if I have something I really want to say before I forget it and the thread is really long I may post before reading all the comments.

Always before. I appreciate others’ contributions to the dialogue. Seems silly to skip over it all just to get my comment in quicker.
