- Wedding: August 2012
My fiance and I, after being engaged for nearly a year, just booked our wedding venue at a beach-front hall a few weeks ago. Since this, we’ve been actively trying to plan and coordinate our wedding and all details. Well, something occurred to me over the weekend while imagining what has been unfolding as a very traditional wedding…
We are not traditional people! (not to mention I HATE being the center of attention, especially with lots of people, something that I should be fairly used to considering I sing professionally, but… go figure)
I spoke with FI, his parents, and mine this morning and we have come up with a great new format for the big day!
We are going to rent a lakefront house in my home state… We will rent the tables, and linens, all of that sort of stuff, but the bridal party and myself will stay the night before and do the entire set-up for the day. We will invite my immediate family and aunts, uncles, and first cousins, some close friends, and FI’s immediate family (his entire family is from the mid-west). We will then hold a separate party in FI’s home-state afterwards so we will get to celebrate with his extended family. This will make the guest list about 40 people. We will have it catered, but the alcohol will be entirely DIY and instead of a dj, we will do our own music. My favorite part is that we will have a bon-fire! With the simplicity of it, we will try to have it late summer of this year!
I know to many people this probably sounds crazy, but this laid back style is so much more us than that traditional route we’ve been going. I will still wear the beautiful dress I’ve picked out, have my wonderful bridal party, and pay for an awesome photog, but everything else will be more relaxed and I will be able to personally take care of the details myself, which is way more fun for me than hiring someone else to do it.
What are your thoughts? Do you think this can easily be pulled off?
