Well bee’s, today has been very painful and embarrassing. As a bit of back ground i have been getting a burning pain at the point where your ribs end in the middle, so the stomach i guess. It has been coming and going over the last few weeks, but as it has not been constant i have been sweeping under the carpet i guess, Putting it down to heart burn/ something i have eaten ect. Well today it peaked. At work 🙁
It started at around 9 am, and slowly got worse and worse. I was in agony, was freezing but sweating, shaking like a leaf and heaving constantly. in the end i was in so much pain i was doubled over on the floor in the toilets and one of my colleagues found me. My make up was awful from crying and they had to ring FI to come and collect me to got to A & E.
I’m mortified – how embarrassing. How am i going to face them tomorrow 🙁
To make matters worse the pain had eased off by the time i saw the doctor, i explained that an hour before i was on the floor in agony, i felt like he thought i was exaggerating as i was not in agony there and then. He gave me some anti acid stuff, patted me on the arm told me to go home and rest up and to monitor it.
Sorry, theres no particular reason to this post other than to feel sorry for myself
Edit, not sure why there are no paragraphs again 🙁 sorry

If you are actually in pain and ill, don’t feel like you’ve embarassed yourself. Anybody that talks behind your back or says mean things to you because you were genuinely ill clearly has had the fortune of never having to deal with something like this.
I bet your co-workers are worried about you, or, at the very least, aren’t making a big deal about it at all.

Did the doctors check your gallbladder ??
Anyway, like the PP, I bet your coworkers are worried about you. I know that if this happened to any of my coworkers I sure would be worried.

Could you have stones? Maybe gall stones? Don’t just brush this off.
A couple of friends of mine had these awful belly aches and then they’d pass. I’d go see another doctor about it.
AND don’t be embarassed. Things happen.

Your gallbladder would be toward the right side right below your ribcage. I had gallstones and had two attacks, each of which lasted 8 hours, and then subsided, so I felt totally fine between them. They should check that.

If I found someone at work on the floor from pain I don’t think I’d be saying anything bad about them, I’d be concerned for them and hoping that they are ok. Don’t be embarassed everyone has medical issues sometimes and you need to speak up and get help at those times.

Oh no! You should get a second opinion and document exactly how you feel, when it starts, how long it lasts each time etc. Something is definitely off. And don’t be embarrassed! This isn’t something you could control obviously, so there’s no reason to feel embarrassed about it. You want to hear embarrassing? Having a coworker walk in on you while you’re…umm…going #2 because you couldn’t hold it til you got home. Now THAT is embarrassing. Not that it’s ever happened to me before or anything…

Could you have stones or (I HOPE NOT) Crohns or Colitis?

Well, I had the same thing happen and it turned out to be ulcers and during the endoscopy they found I had Celiac Disease, too.
You shouldn’t be embarrassed or even think twice about going back to work! Yes, it might make you feel embarrassed, but everyone in the world has gotten sick and can understand what you’re going through. Your colleages will be no different! They just want you back and healthy asap 🙂 So don’t stress and feel better soon! 🙂

I agree with PP, get your gallbladder checked! Your pain sounds exactly like the pain I had. When I went to the hospital, my pain had worn off too, and they gave me some heartburn meds and sent me home. It was NOT heartburn. By the time they figured out it was my gallbladder, it literally had almost exploded (they called it a “hot gallbladder”…almost like a volcano.)
Just go visit your doctor, get a second opinion. They’ll probably do an ultrasound or CT of your abdomen, and some blood work. No biggie. And getting your GB removed is no big deal, it’s a very simple procedure!
Also, don’t feel embarrassed, and don’t worry about work. Your coworkers are probably worried about you! No one likes getting sick, I’m sure everyone understands 🙂

I would get a second opinion. Also if my co-worker was found like that I would be so worried for her! I would hope no one would seriously talk about someone who was found in the bathroom floor sick and in pain. I wouldn’t worry about it!

Thanks bee’s, i booked in with my doctor next week so i think i will make myself mention it to him. I can be a bit naughty as if im not in pain there and then, i tend to brush it away, but tody scared me so i will definitely talk to him.
Everyone at work was great, and fussing around me till FI got there, im sure no one would gossip or talk behind my back, i just keep thinking “what a sight i must of been” i had complete panda eyes lol. I tend not to like a fuss, hence why i ended up on the floor in the bathroom alone, than in the sick room. Im too stubborn or something i guess.
Thanks for your lovely comments though, its making tomorrow not seem so bad.

Do not feel embarrassed! Everyone knows that an ill person cannot help being ill.
Your symptoms sound like mine when my ulcers peaked. I went to the ER because I thought I was having an asthma attack! My chest was burning and it was terrible. They told me that I was probably just “stressed” and that I was making it up.
I made a follow up appointment at a real doctor’s and they found 2 big ulcers and stomach erosion.
See if the anti-acids helped. One thing that helped me was Pepto Bismal…immediate relief. (it says don’t take it if you have ulcers, but for real it was the only thing that made it feel better)
