I have never done this, but my FI learned how to take apart a dishwasher this weekend using videos on partselect.com.  This is the first time we have ever taken apart an appliance, and with the videos, we didn’t end up destroying it.  I would look at a few how to videos and see if it looks feasable for you.

I have not replaced a belt specifically, but FI and I have had to replace things on our washing machine before.  Our machine is a 90’s-era top loading Kenmore.  We were able to google the model number and found diagrams of where parts were located in the machine, and used that to figure out how to replace parts.  If the belt is in an accessible area, I don’t think it would be too tough to repair yourself.  We went through Sears to get our part because our local store had it in stock, but you can probably find online shops that carry the part if you google the model number.
