I am currently nannying part time for a family while I am in school. My charge’s father spoke to me before I left on Friday. He told me that I don’t need to work on Monday because they will be planning and attending the funeral of My charge’s maternal grandfather all weekend and into Monday. I picked up a card for them on the way home last night, and I am confused as to what to write in it. I am relatively young, so I haven’t had the need to send tons of condolences. I’m confused as to what I should write in one in general, but also in this type of work situation. Since I am a nanny I am closer to the family than if it was just my boss in an office.

I never know what to write in those either. I usually google what to write in a condolence card ….. I just did now, and a ton of things came up.

Sorry to hear about Mrs. ______’s grandfather. You and your family will be in my thoughts/prayers during this difficult time.

I just say that I’m sorry for your loss and the family will be in thoughts/prayers/whatever.
Doesn’t need to be indepth or “personal”, just having a card shows them you care.
