I’m 10 weeks today. According to my What to Expect app the baby is the size of a lime (2 in), but on my babycenter emails it’s a kumquat (a little over an inch) this week and it’s not a lime until 12 weeks. I know they’re not all going to say the same thing, but I’m not quite sure which to believe. Which apps or sources do you use to learn about the weekly development and size?

@MrsB620: I get weekly emails from TheBump and EverydayFamily… they arent always the same fruit but generally the same general size…
A kumquat fo week 10 is right… lime is week 12/13?? cant remember which one exactly…

What to expect seems to always be a week ahead of itself, I rely on babycenter cause it matches my preggo book.

I’ve been using the one on The Bump. My sister has been taking pics of my bump with the actual fruit or veggie every week. As we’ve gone along, we’ve questioned their judgment quite a bit on how they chose that particular week’s fruit or veggie, because often times the fuit they tell you for one week will be SMALLER than the one from the week before. But alas, it has been so much fun to do! And I’ve even been known to break out my tape measure a time or two in the produce section of the grocery store to make sure I was getting the right size mango or whatever. 😛

the bump one drives me crazy. Baby is the size of a CUCUMBER?! What? like, 12 inches long and 2 inches diameter? um…no….
I mean, fruits in general are pretty inconsistent. Like, a cantalope that you buy in the store is probably about 8 inches diameter, but if you were to grow one in your garden, it might only get up to 5 inches, ya know?

I think they go more off of weight than actual length which is why sometimes baby is round and sometimes he is long lol
My 37 week fruit gives me the following;
Cute Fruit- Winter Melon
Baby Center- Swiss Chard
I’m Expecting- Leek or mini watermelon
Baby Bump- Swiss Chard
According to the last sonogram he is about 20 inches long and a little over 7 lbs. I’ll have to measure some fruits and veggies next time I go to the store for a more accurate measurement haha

I don’t really find the fruit comparison to be very accurate anyway since as others have mentioned, fruit sizes are very inconsistant. I have 4 different apps on my phone and they all tell me a different fruit each week.

My OB laughed when I said the fruit size… she said they’re all inaccurate becuase your fetus grows at its own rate.

They all vary slightly- I use babycenter. I like the weekly updates I get and started using it when I was pregnant with DS 3 years ago. Now I get updates for DS and new baby due in April!

@MrsB620: I am so over the fruit and veggie comparison, lol. I got pretty frusterated as to which app was more accurate. I use What to Expect, Baby Center, and I’m expecting. I find I’m Expecting to be pretty accurate for the most part. It’s like some weeks they measure in terms of weight and others in length.

@SaraP2012: Swiss chard?! What a bizarre comparison haha.
I’m sticking with Babycenter. Right or wrong, it’s so much fun to get the emails every Thursday morning telling me he or she is. Blueberry right now.
The one that gets me is a banana. I can’t fathom how a baby can be shaped/sized like a banana. Even if they are going by weight there has to be a better option for that week.

You should all check out the pregnant chicken web site. I dont think they have an app but the web site sends me emails through the week and they are hilarious!

I don’t thikn any of them are all that accurate lol. I’m a head of lettuce at 32 weeks. I’ve never personally come across a 4lb head of lettuce though so…

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think maybe the fruits and veggies get even weirder the farther along you are. I saw one week compared the baby to a carrot, now I’m imagining a poor carrot shaped baby.
