I tried posting this earlier…and it didn’t work for some reason. So here it goes again.
Today I tried on a Stella York (5835) dress that I have been really looking forward to trying on and I did really like it when I tried it on. It is Royal Organza, fitted but very light and comfortable. I did notice that the boning was kind of noticable but I was a bit more preoccupied with other features of the dress. Although the sales people were very nice, they were not able to advise me on what could be done about the boning because they don’t actually have a seamstress on site.
So here is a photo of the dress that I fell in love with online and here are a couple of photos from today when I tried it on. If you have any suggestions about the boning or any advice I would really appreciate it!

Do you love it?

I actually do see what you mean about the boning, but is it that way because the dress is too big on you? Would it be a better fit in a smaller size? Is it comfortable?
Otherwise, it’s a lovely dress and beautiful on your figure.

Is the boning the two white vertical lines running down the front of the dress? If so, then yea…they’re kind of noticeable. But I love the silhouette on you! I don’t have any advice to give about what can be done about the boning, but if they can minimize the look of it, I say this may be your dress!

@sevash: that dress is gorgeous on you!

OMG that dress is beautiful!! And you look beautiful in it!! honestly i looked at the photo first and i thought wow that dress is amazing. Then i read you post and look at the picture again and noticed the boning right away, but didnt notice it at the first glance you would prolly get away with it if you didnt say anything to anybody but if you told me i wouldnt be able to notice anything else

@Ms.GoodEarth: I have such mixed feelings abuout it. I’m not sure if it’s my style. I tend to be less trendy and more classic. I am very plain and boring lol! But I LOVE it in the picture from the site. It evokes the feeling that I am looking for.
@peonyinparis: This dress was a size 10. I am either a 6 or 10. I’m not very tall either.. just about 5’4″. So I am very conscious of making sure my dress isn’t too busy. I’m not ready to go and order it hoping the boning isnt as noticable in the smaller size. I’m just not comfortable taking the risk. (Who would be?!?)
The best part is the price…$815!!

If you have mixed feelings about it, I would walk away from it and continue trying on other dresses. Use this one’s styling as an Place to start. In my opinion, the boning /seaming is very very noticeable., and not in a good way. I think its a pretty dress (although I think they photoshopped the heck out it for the adverisement image.) and the style really looks nice on you, but you need to love your dress not be ehhh about it.

I’m bothered by the boning. It’s looks very different from the picture. I would keep that body wrap/mermaid style in mind and keep looking personally.

@sevash: I see what you mean about the boning. Other than that the dress looks amazing on you! I love the belt with it too. I would definitely keep looking though.

The visible boning would drive me nuts. Very pretty dress, the neckline is so flattering.

That boning would be unacceptable to me.

I think the boning is noticeable. If you wore some type of white strapless undergarment (body shaper, spanx, slip, etc) it might not show. That material is a tiny bit sheer and adding solid white underneath will show less of your own skin tone thru the material. It may work or it may not. Just an idea. It is beautiful on you!

The boning would bother me too. It’s even slightly noticable in the model pic. I would keep looking if that’s a problem for you. (It would be for me.)
