Hi bees, I’m looking for some guidance and hoping y’all can help! My husband and I use the pullout method (and have done so for the 8 years of our relationship) when we have sex. We are aware that we are messing with fire when doing that, but we are fully willing to accept the consequences. With that said, we are not actively ttc right now. Here is where my question comes into play:
My period is late this month. My period came Feb 21st or 22nd last month, so I should have been due around the same time this month. I know I’m not extremely late, but I am late nonetheless. This may sound silly, bit I feel pregnant; however, the 3 at-home tests I’ve taken indicate otherwise. I did notice that the – for the negative sign is so very faint (not a strong blue color), but there is no other line running vertically (not even faintly) to suggest that I am pregnant. I feel as if I have pregnancy signs though: run down/dizzy feeling, constantly have to pee, nausea, tingly nipples if I touch them. Part of me feels crazy, like I am imagining this all. I don’t know what to think bees…….could the test be lying???

@FutureMrs.Wood: I would wait a few days and test again. I was 2 days late when I had a neg. Then had my BFP 5 days later.

@trugem: Yeah…Iplanned to, unless I do get my period. Shouldnt my pregnancy hormone be strong enough to be detected being 5 days late? …..I can’t help butbe disappointed. I thought this was going tobe a nice surprise.

Your pregnancy hormone should be strong enough. You might have just not ovulated and then not got your period (average woman does this one timer per year believe it or not) or you might have ovualted late, delaying your period, or late ovulation could still mean that your pregnant and just not as late as you think you are. I would wait a couple more days and test. If still negative I would call your doctor, because you want to make sure you don’t have something dangerous going on, like an ectopic pregnancy, which wouldn’t give you a positive pregnancy test. Good luck!

Keep us posted! Definitely test again in a few days and see what happens, you never know! 🙂 Fingers crossed you get the result you are looking for (and soon 😉 )

Agreed, test again. Buy a First Responce Early Responce (in my experience if there is any faint line it’s a BFP) or a digital and test in the morning when your level are at their highest.
My Darling Husband and I used this method along with the rhythm method for many, many years without any real scares (like you we were prepared for an unplanned pregnancy if it did happen). Once we were married we stopped being as careful and as soon as we started talking about TTC it happened and at 30 weeks we’ve never been happier.
Goof luck! I hope you get the results you’re looking for 🙂

I would wait a couple days and then re-test. But I would get the digital tests as they are best. Your hormone level increase tons each day so waiting a couple more days will help get a more accurate reading. Also the digital ones are suppose to be better. Hope you get some answers soon! I know it’s hard waiting.

@FutureMrs.Wood: You should test again in a few days, sometimes it can take a bit longer to detect. You could very well be imagining the symptoms, I know I do when I’m late… I start feeling “pregnant” and its my subconcious talking. Also, that “negative” bar that you said was coming in faintly, will be there no matter what (for most pregnancy tests). It is a control measure to ensure that the test is working properly.. so possibly the test was not functioning to the best of its ability.
Definitely try again in the next few days. Good luck!

Do you track your cycles? If you’re using the “pull out” method, to give you peace of mind, I would download one of the period cycle tracker apps or get a paper chart. Or mark it on a calendar. That way, you can kind of track how long on average your cycles are. Saying, “Well, my period came this time last month, so now I’m late” is kind of hard to gauge. Your cycle can be affected by many, many things, especially if you aren’t on hormonal BC, so all kinds of things, like stress, lack of sleep, illness, weight gain/loss, etc. Knowing how many days on average your cycle is will help you to not worry. (and maybe you already do this, it just wasn’t clear from your original post) 🙂
I mean, I’m a 28 day cycle like clockwork kind of gal, and I had a random 40 day cycle back in October. I blame my flu shot, because it was the first time that I had ever had one in my life and I think it threw my system out of wack.
I would wait a few days and definitely re-test with a digital.
Oh, and the month I found out I was pregnant was the ONE month while TTC that I was absolutely, 100% POSITIVE that I wasn’t preganant. All those other months that I “felt pregnant”? BFN every time. 🙂 Keep in mind that pre-period signs and early pregnancy signs are very, very similar. 🙂 Hope that helps to ease your mind a little!

@FutureMrs.Wood: I was almost 7 days late when I got my BFP. So it is possible.

Thanks to all of you ladies who offered insight! I truly appreciate it. I will test in a couple of days, and I will get the “pregnant/not pregnant” test. I was going to get that this time, but I chickened out because I didn’t want to see “Not Pregnant”…I know, foolish me!!!!!
My “logical” mind is telling me that since all of my tests thus far have been negative, I probably am not pregnant. I am so disappointed, but I really have no right to be considering we weren’t ttc!!! As of lately, I have been extremely maternal & reallllllllllly wanting a kid (probably for the last few months..I’m 26, and my maternal alarm clock is ringing loudly!). My husband has been the one to say, “let’s wait a little bit more..I’m not quite ready.” Much to his surprise, he has been kind of anxious and excited about the possibility of me being pregnant. Maybe this whole occurance has taught us that we are ready for a baby…so maybe we’ll start ttc!
In any event, pleaseeeeeeeeee keep your fingers crossed that my pregnancy hormone isn’t strong (which is why I’ve been getting negatives) and that I really am pregnant. There’s just something so very special about this unexpected surprise (of a missed period and possibility a baby). I just don’t quite want to let it go. Each day that I don’t get my period I start to convince myself that I am pregnant.

I agree with Miss Root about tracking of your cycles and you could be less “late” than you think you are, which could be why you are testing negative. I hope you do get your BFP but if not, maybe this will encourage hubby to be willing to “roll the dice” more often and start trying. 🙂 Good luck!

Still no period!!!! Darling Husband and I are going to test again tomorrow morning…**crossing fingers***
Say I didn’t ovulate this month, as another poster suggested, does that mean I would skip a period for the month of March altogether???? I’m confused…
