Ok, I am not getting married until next year but I am still trying to figure out how everything will go. I am interested in booking a venue for the reception that is very nice(has a deck with on a lake) and affordable. However, I am so confused about how things will get set up on the actual wedding date. The place is rented hourly and you only have one free hour to decorate. I could buy an extra hour to have more time to get everything done. But my problem is, if my wedding starts at 4 or 5 and I only have the hour before the reception to decorate, who would do it? I do not have a wedding planner and they do not have a day of coordinator.
Does anyone have any ideas that could possibly work? I could rent the venue for 8 hours and have in for the whole day, should I just do this and decorate that morning?
Someone please advice me some advice. Below is a pic of the venue.

@servin89: our rental guy is doing Our setup and tear down…so worth it!

Our venue does the chairs/table/tent, but we do the rest. So yeah, we’re going to go up at like 8 am and set up for a few hours, then put an army of friends & family in charge of anything that still needs to be done. Renting it for the whole day is WAY worth it, in my book.

Our venue set up most of it, and the florist did the tables. Maybe you could hire a coordinator to do that part? Might be cheaper than renting the venue for the whole day

I would hire a DOC to do it. I had zero interest in working on my wedding day. LOL

A day of coordinator can handle a setup situation like this. If it’s not in the budget, it’s probably best to recruit some friends or family to do it.

Hire a DOC. Please don’t make your family work.

@servin89: I would compare the cost of renting it for the whole day vs hiring a DOC. If the DOC is WAY more expensive, I’d rent the venue for the whole day and do it myself. But, if the DOC was in anyway managable, I’d go with that cause who wants to work on their wedding day?

@servin89: My family, and friends who aren’t in the wedding party (i.e. won’t be with us taking pictures) are setting up our reception venue. We have quite a long gap between ceremony and reception.

@servin89: Depends, sometimes it is vendors you are using. I would ask the venue if they help with set up. My venue helped set up the reception. But I also hired someone (florist) to set up the ceremony and help the staff do the reception decor. I wanted it to be done the way I wanted. 🙂 At my sisters wedding she did everything diy, so all her decor was set up by my my family and her DHs. There was no staff venue there during the wedding/reception.

this is why we went to a hotel venue, they did everything,i just couldnt see myself or askng friends and family to take down everything after drinking and having a goodtime.setting up was impossible while im getting ready for my wedding.i could hire people and spend money on decorations, but why when i could pay cheaper or around the same to have it all done for me that included a doc the day of and all the months leading up to the wedding.
you still have time to look around before making a final decsion so take your time and you will find somewere that makes you happy 🙂

I had a similar problem, only we didn’t even have the option to rent the room for more hours, so I hired a DOC. Best decision ever – aside from taking over ceremony and reception setup, she’s basically taking over all wedding details starting a few days beforehand, including last minute vendor calls and panicked guest and wedding party questions. Plus she’s recommending me vendors and is lending me decor so I don’t have to buy it all myself!

were having the ceremony and reception all in one spot. while me and my girls are getting our hair done were sending the guys ahead of time to at least do the tables and chairs set up. we can get in our place at noon and probably planning on starting around 3. then once were done we’ll head over and help with decorations. since the guys dont need that much time to get dresse you can have some of your guys and maybe some relatives help with your set up.

Thanks everyone. I will look at the cost for a DOC vs renting the place for the whole day and see which is better.
