    Hey guys!

I'm really confused. Wondering if I'm pregnant. It's really early, and at 9 days before period, I took 4 tests. The first was positive, and throughout the day the remaining 3 were negative.

Took one this morning, and it was neg.

The first 3 tests were dollar store tests, and the last two were good ones.

I'm so confused!!! LOL What do you all think?

For about 4 days I was experiencing period cramps, but I knew I already ovulated so I figured it was not that, that's what tipped me off. Last night and today I felt queasy, but I wondering if I'm imaginging it all!

Crazyness! Anyone had a similar experience?

It's very, very uncommon to get a false positive on a pregnancy test, but very easy to get a false negative if you're testing too early.  Since you're still 9 days before your missed period I would guess that it's very likely the one positive was right.  Here's an article about false positive pregnancy tests and what causes them.  Hopefully this can help you figure out whether or not your first test was right. :)

I had taken dollar store tests during my pregnancy and they were just as accurate as the "good" tests, just much much cheaper!

If you havent even missed your period yet, I would wait a bit before taking another one. The pregnancy hormone could be really low in your body at this point. Although, that said, I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks into my pregnancy by taking a test "For fun" haha. Surprise! :P

The symptoms your feeling don't usually show up this early in pregnancy. It could just be your mind causing them.

    @MissBoPeep:

Thanks for the article....The dollar store test came with an eyedropper. I didn't have a cup handy, so I just peed on the stick. That was pos. very faint, but just got darker as the day went on.... The other two dollar negative ones, I used the eyesropper on...

    @ChantelleyLace:

I'm wondering if I'm just imagining it too. the cramps, I know I was not, but I thought maybe it was implantation cramping.... too much googling.

I just want it to be true.... I haven't said anything to my husband until I know for sure...

I would say it sounds like you are pregnant.  Really the only thing to do though is wait a few more days and test again.

My guess would be that since you peed on the stick that was only supposed to have a few drops is that it actually did pick up the HCG while the others with the less amount of liquid did not.   The HCG doubles every day so keep testing!

I too used the dollar store brands and had them recommended to me by a doctor.  Save your money they work fine.

I have heard that false positives are very rare, so there's a good chance you're pregnant! I would try to wait a few more days and test again first thing in the morning. Good luck!!!

Since you are SO early, Im guessing the first test you took had the highest amount of HCG in it, so it was detected.  As you drank throughout teh day, the urine was diluted, so there wasnt enough of the HCG in the diluted urine to be detected by the test.

Wait until the morning and take one with your first urine.  Im guessing you are pregnant.  I hope congrats are in order!

I would get a blood test at the doctor.  That will not only tell you if you are pregnant, but would also rule out a chemical pregnancy (extremely early "miscarriage" where the egg is fertilized but doesn't attach) or a case of a really low HCG level (which at your point is perfectly normal, as long as it rapidly increases).

It costs more, yes.  But worth the peace of mind!

I hope you are pregnant!!!  Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

@heathaah: Can I get that done now? Or do I have to wait until I get my period is due?

I live in Canada, so luckily those things are covered by general insurance, which is good since I have no drug insurance!

They were negative because your hormone levels are low this early, and different tests will read different levels of hormones (early morning should have given a positive though, but it's too early to have super high levels). Go to the doctor for a blood test!

@crayfish:  Actually, that's not always true.  I so hope this isn't the case, but sometimes "early results" pregnancy tests can detect a chemical pregnancy that a women otherwise would not have known about.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a BFP!!!!

It just seems really weird to me that the very first one was positive and all the others were neg..... I was almost sure this morning would of given me a pos...

Maybe it was an evaporation line or something. But I thought to myself, that's definatly a line...

Oh, that might be too early.  I am not completely sure though.  It's worth a call, maybe?

I hope you get the news you want, but I would wait it out. Like Heathaah said it is POSSIBLE to get a positive early, especially since you are testing so early and then get negatives because the egg did not fully attach and thus have a unknown miscarriage. This actually does happen alot for some and that is one of the cons they suggest to testing so early. Plus I also read that you said through out the day it became darker, it says any result after 10 minutes or more can be misinterpreted. While I feel your signs are good seeing that you got the one positive, I would wait it out or call your doctor for blood work.

    @MissGreen:

I guess I will have to wait and see. I haven't had any bleeding though. I will probably hit the dollar store and lunch for more HPT.. Can't help it...

LOL...I hear you on the dollar store tests...so inexpensive and so readily available!  Before seeing an RE I was taking about 8 a month!  Ok, I am exaggerating...a little...

Did the line on the test show up in the time frame on the test directions? I had a test with an evap line that I thought was a positive, but the next morning i got a negative and then read about evap lines. If there was a line in the time frame, then it's likely a positive. You are very early in your cycle though, so maybe wait a day or two and test again. Remember to test first thing in the am for the most accurate results. Or go to the dr.

@mrstilly: Yes it was right away, the faint line......and just when I stared at it throughout the day, it was darker. It was a thin line, not as thick as the other line....

But I dont think I am. I just did 2 more tests. One peeing on it. and one with the dropper. Both Neg....... Maybe I did something wrong the first time, I dont know, but in my non experienced opinion, it seems impossible to get one FIRST pos, and later in the day and the next day get like 6 neg.....

I suppose it could of been chemical one, but from what I read there will be bleeding, and I have had none of that.

Of course if I dont get my period, I will go to the doctor....but I feel so disappointed.....

You're supposed to take a pregancy test first thing in the morning because thats when the hormones are the most concentrated in your urine.  As the day goes on the hormone level is harder to detect.  It makes sense that the first test (when your hormone levels are highest) was positive and the subsequent tests (when the hormone levels were lower) were negative.

    You're probably testing too early.

Chances are if you got a positive on the first test of the day that you ARE pregnant but the hormones are too low to be detected as the day goes on and your urine is diluted.

I'd say you need to wait at least a week (2 days before your period is due) and test again. Otherwise you may just be wasting money on tests.

results on a pregnancy test are only good for a set amount of time (5-10 minutes, I think). so don't read too much into the line getting darker later in the day.

this website has lots of great info about HPTs (and OPTs) including an explanation of why tests have time limits:

Sorry to be a downer but I have gotten a false positive.... at the time I wasn't TTC so it was a very scary thing but subsequently got 4 negatives.... I would definitely wait until closer to your expected period and retest! Fingers crossed for you though!

You probably wouldn't have bleeding quite yet (at 6 DPO) with a chemical pregnancy.  It would seem more like your period and will happen around the time it is due.  This is why most people don't know they have had a chemical pregnancy.

Keep us posted!  I really do hope you are pregnant!!!

Took another today. Totally NEG...I'm only 7 days post ovulation and my period is not due for another 7 days. I suppose I could get a positive in the next week, but in my heart I think I will be getting my period in 7 days not a positive..... bummer... but I will keep you all updated...

4 days before period is due, and still negative..... Now all the period symptoms start, and I will sit and wonder if they are period of pregnancy....

I still think my period will come, but I'm hoping for a missed period!

@umagurl:  I hope you get a dark line positive the next time you test!  I had a squinter about 10 DPO and then I tested negative for three days before I got another positive, which showed up really fast and dark.

    Good luck!!

When I found out I was pregnant I took 4 tests (all in between the hours of 12pm and 6pm!!!) and they were all positive. I was about a week overdue in regards to my period but they were all big solid lines.

I know it must be really hard but try and wait until a few days after your period is due... good luck!

    Keep us updated!

    Hey girls...

Well 3 days before my period this morning, I took a test, and it was a quick NEG... Boo. a few minutes later, I had some "stuff" on the toilet paper, but not any since..... so I guess the period is on it's way...

Boo. It was fun while it lasted. On to trying again....

Thx for all the help, input and support! You guys really are great!

You shouldn't be testing any earlier than 5 days before your period (and, even then, most tests say you should wait until you miss it). Also, you shouldn't be reading the test after the "expiry" (most tests are valid from the point when the control line shows up until 10 minutes post-urination; any results that show up after that point are invalid).

I'm not telling you that you're defs not pregnant, but I'm just not going to make any judgement at all at this point -- it's WAY too early for anything but a doctor-ordered blood test to be accurate.
