@Mrs_Garmon:  i hate mermaid in general but on shorter girls we just look like we are kicking a heavy load of fabric bricks. have you thought of greecian? that would help with the weather and location. If you don’t need floor length also look into some tea length options.

There are some lovely chiffon dresses with structure, I think that could suit what your looking for? I’m 5’2 and hourglass and found that fitted mermaid style dresses suited my body shape, I found all the big skirted dresses completely drowned me.

@Mrs_Garmon:  they definitely lengthen the body frame.

@summer_1981:  maybe a picture of you in mermaid will help us reference?

Mermaids suit hourglass girls, and they can also suit petite girls provided they don’t flare out too much at the bottom. You want something fairly subtle and flowy that highlights the curves of the body rather than cutting it in two.

@clairebbbear:  do you have any on yourself? I ask b/c I am also short and the tall models dont really show how stuff looks on us. I’ve only been to one wedding w/ a mermaid as southern girls trend toward more traditional lines but she was 5 9 sooooo yea. It looked ridic when she walked but standing still for pics she looked amazing.

@subtlebee:  Not me personally as I’m not short, and I couldn’t wear a mermaid anyway because I’m plus size.

But here are some threads from here featuring petite girls – quite a few with mermaids:

@clairebbbear:  thanks! So I def think mermaid looks horrid on us shoties BUT on the super thin girl it look amazing. So if OP is really thin then go for it!

If you are normal thin to average I would do something else. I never really liked a line but that seems to work in the pics provided so perhaps look into those?

@Mrs_Garmon:  Great choice! I can totally imagine you rocking your curves in that one. Perfect for an hourglass figure – and the halter would make you look taller too!
