I don’t usually post here (casual lurker, okay fine, obsessive lurker.) But now that DH & I have been TTC (NTNP) for almost a full year, time to get serious.
So according to my FF app, I was due for AF yesterday. This thing has my cycyles down to a science, it’s never been wrong once! So of course, when that didn’t happen, I began to quietly freak out. No hpt in my stash, so I took an OPK. 3 blaring positives in a row. uhhhh WTH?
Now in my googling fury I read that a pos on an OPK after a missed period could very well indicate pregnancy.
Cue sending husband out to get hpt…Spoiler Alert: a whopping BFN.
Could I be ovulating this late in my cycle? I’m on day 31. Now 2 days “late” according to FF. I ALWAYS ovulate around day 15-17. Oddly enough, my girlfriend is staying with us for a few months and this is the first full cycle that she’s been in our house. Could that have anything to do with it? Or am I just worrying over nothing. Someone talk some sense into me or help me come up with a logical explanation.
Confused & Annoyed.

@MissCurlyQ: you prob o’d late, that happened to me a few cycles ago.

@MissCurlyQ: It absolutely can happen – I dont’ know if it did or not. If you’re not temping there’s no way to know. But there was a January mama who thought she had had a positive opk around day 16 or whatever and BD’ed. Well, turns out she didn’t O until way later – like CD 30 or something. They managed to hit the FW just because and she got pregnant. So it definitely happens.
ETA: If your OPK was positive and your HCG test was negative, you’re probably not pregnant. The two hormones are fairly similar, but the HCG has something extra in it. So a pregnant person will probably get a + opk, but it doesn’t work the other way around. I will also say, that I used an opk recently at like 7 weeks, and it was blaring positive, but not as much as you’d think.

@trixiesrockets: Thanks! that’s what i’m figuring too. Shucks, why does my cycle wait until we are actively ttc to be all wonky? Cruel mother nature.
@Mrs.LemonDrop: Thank you, okay now i’m convinced I just O’d late! I guess that may be a good thing–we might have bd enough in the past few days to make it work..FX HAHA.

@Mrs.LemonDrop: You could be Oing late. The other possibility is that your urine was too diluted when you took the HPT. Wait until tomorrow morning, take another HPT with first morning urine, and you should get a more accurate result. I’d probably also keep taking OPKs – if they go negative again and you’re still getting BFNs on your HPTs, then you have your answer (late ovulation).

yeah i think you should take another preg test but also assume that you could be ovulating. do you temp? that would help a lot in being able to tell if you ovulated.

@MissCurlyQ: I would be annoyed too! I O’d really late this past cycle, apparently we hit the FW because we ended up with a BFP. Are you using a First Response Early Results test? If not go out and grab one and use FMU. Good luck!!!

@xdaydreams05x: awww yay you give me hope! CONGRATS on your BFP.
