This is my first time posting, although I have been skimming through the boards since I got engaged a few months ago. This site seems to be a supportive place to talk to other brides, and I really need to be in touch with people who understand right now 🙂
I’ve got a combo ceremony/reception site booked locally at a country club for a wedding this fall. Along with said site comes a guest list of well over 100 people.
This is not what I want.
I’m starting to come to terms with the fact that I don’t want to do this typical, traditional, country club thing. Ideally I’d do Vegas, but I can’t do that, and I don’t want to get into the why behind it. I’m starting to consider a beach wedding in Florida (Gulf coast, near St Petersburg), but I really need to talk it out a little.
My guest list in this case would be 23 people at the most. I have 5 that would be flying in, no matter where I have it (including my immediate family). My FI, his 2 sons, my 2 bridesmaids, and his immediate family makes up the rest of the guest list and are all currently local.
For the most part, people seem to be open to traveling, which is nice, but I’m really struggling to nail down the date and how the whole thing will pan out. Does anyone have any tips for a FL wedding, or destination weddings in general? Best dates to consider (working around a school schedule)? Any easy way to convince people to go? Especially those hesitant to fly?
People keep telling me “it’s your day, do what you want!” but I’ve learned really quickly that I don’t get to call the shots, so I’m just trying to make as many people happy as possible.
Any words of wisdom or tips or anything at all would be helpful right now. Thanks for listening 🙂
