FI and I are taking a cruise for our HM. We live in Upstate, NY and our cruise departs from NJ so we’re not exactly local. We’re only 3 1/2 hours away but we refuse to drive our car down there. Parking is expensive and we would prefer our car be safely parked in our garage while we’re away.
Our original plan was to hire a car service to take us down and pick us up but that proved to be UNBELIEVABLY expensive. I had budgeted around $500 and I was quoted more than $1000+ tip from multiple companies.
We then thought about taking the train down the day before, staying overnight and taking a cab to the port but I think that could get pricey as well as stressful and I’m really looking to avoid that.
Our last resort seems to be Yankee Trails. Our local branch (or whatever you call it) offers cruise express which brings you directly to the port. It’s only $80 p/person round trip. While I don’t think Yankee Trails is the most romantic way to kick off our HM it does appear to be the cheapest. It’s been more than 10 years since I’ve been on one of these busses so I don’t even really remember what they’re like.
Has anyone been on Yankee Trails recently? Are the busses updated? I keep thinking the bus will totally suck and end up bumming us out.

See if you can find out which kind of bus they’ll be using. I’ve done bus groups with a bunch of them. They’re definitely nicer than they were last time you saw one. The seats are pretty comfy, most of them have the fold up arm rest between the 2 seats, there are TVs and the seats recline. A few have footrests.
What dates are you looking for and what port in NJ are you departing from?
You probably called Premiere and Today’s Limo already? I know premiere raised their rates last year a LOT…
Send me the dates and I’ll do some digging 🙂

@thewheelsonthebus: You’re fantastic! Our cruise is October 22nd-27th out of Cape Liberty. And yep to the limo companies.

While we may not exactly be objective, we have to commend you for considering Yankee Trails’ Cruise Express for your shuttle transportation to the ship terminal in Cape Liberty, Bayonne, NJ. We do have a shuttle scheduled for your cruise (on board Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas, correct?) and currently have availability. Furthermore, you should know that we are a full service travel agency that could handle all of your HM needs, including your cruise reservations. In fact, we also have a Honeymoon Registry Program where your guests could “chip in” and help pay for the honeymoon of a lifetime! (certainly more memorable than a coffee pot or blender!)
If you would like more information about us, feel free to visit us at http://www.yankeetrails.com. You may also make your reservations for Cruise Express while you’re there! Or, give us a call at 518-286-2400 and we would be delighted to help in any way we can.
