So I quickly tried my dress on this weekend when I visited the FILs. I was really happy with it. I just am considering making some alterations.
I’m thinking of making the scoop neckline into a soft sweatheart, possibly lowering the back, and maybe adding lace cap sleeves. I need your opinions. I may be being overly critical, but I am afraid the dress doesn’t look very flattering on my back.
I’m now beginning to worry that if I add sleeves it may not flatter my upper body and may make me look larger. Dare I say it…I might wear it strapless!
So what, if any, alternations do you think I should have made?
Here’s the dress and it’s original neckline. (Sorry I didn’t stand straight on)
Here’s me attempting to see what it would look like as a sweatheart.
Here are two shots of the back of the gown. Do you think I have back fat? Do you think it’s not flattering? Be honest.

i think the back looks great! I’m a fan of sweetheart necklines & think you should get it switched.

No back fat at all!
I actually like the neckline how it is, but it is personal preference I think. It will look good either way.

I love sweetheart necklines but I think you should leave it as is. It’s beautiful. And seriously, what back fat? You are delusional!

It actually looks like the neckline is already a modified/soft sweetheart. I like sweetheart necklines and I think it looks good both ways. However, the fact that it’s strapless and the silhouette seems to be a fit and flare, the full on sweetheart is a bit “sexier” IMO.
I don’t think you have backfat. The back looks fine. The only thing I might consider doing, if you could, is making the back a V – I happen to really like that look and think it’s more flattering than the high straight-across back that you have now. But, if you don’t like that look or if you’re afraid that the dress won’t stay up if you do that, then don’t do it because I think it looks fine as is anyway!
I don’t think you should add sleeves. I think it will overwhelm the top part of the dress.
I think the dress is really beautiful! I’m not sure you need to alter anything, really.
ETA: Just realized one of the options is lowering the back, which I’m assuming is the V thing I’m talking about. I personally like that and think it makes any dress more flattering, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

I much prefer it the way it is! And it looks fab on you!

You are beautiful and so is the dress as is, so you don’t NEED any alterations! But if it’s in the budget, go ahead and get what you want! It’s your dress and you only wear it once, so make sure it’s the one you want! 🙂

After seeing pics of the back of my dress, I wish I’d made it a V. A soft sweetheart (not as deep as you’re pulling it in the pic) and a V back would be lovely.

@plzhalp: Thanks. you are so sweet.
Thanks so much for all your opinions. It’s nice to know that a lot of you feel I should make no changes. It would definitely save me some money. I am concerned that if I make it a v back I will lose some of the secure feeling the dress offers. It does have a built in corset, so the V could not come too low, but it may leave my chest with less support. I will see what the seamstress says and how much it will cost.

it looks tighter at the top compared with the hips. I think making it either tighter at the hips, or looser at the top will even out the look more.
sweetheart is pretty but totally not necessary IMO it would be price dependant.

I agree with mrskopp2be and think the sweetheart neckline and a “V” back would be beautiful. Maybe you could undo the buttons and tuck in the
Backfat? Are you kidding? I see no backfat, you have an awesome figure!!!

I am a big fan of sweetheart necklines but I think that neckline is super flattering on you and looks great! I am also a huge fan of a low back, that was actually a must have in my own wedding gown. That will be a personal decision on your part, if you can I am bias and think it will look wonderful, but it looks great as it is too!

I think it looks really good on you! It is a really nice dress. I am partial to sweethearts and I think it suits the dress and you well. But I like the back as is. If you really want to modify it, I would make it a slight V-shape. But wow, love the dress. 🙂
