I feel like some makeup residue gets in my eyes. And then it gets hard to clean my eyes out because anything I do to cleanse my eyes involves making me really teary which then messes up my makeup. It's a vicious cycle. Last night I went home and just threw out the pair I was wearing. Starting fresh today.
I wear contacts too! I switched to Mary Kay mascara a while back because I loved it's wow factor. Unfortunately, I felt like I had pink eye when I wore it. I switched back to Clinique and haven't had an issue. Make sure you're really cleaning it all off at night too. It might be the brand your using.
Are you lining the inner lids? If you are not, there probably isn't anything getting in the eye. You probably need to adjust to wearing makeup. And close your eye completely during application. I sometimes just rinse with some rewetting drops if I feel as though I have something in my eye.
i have contacts, too. i don't get makeup in my eyes, i don't think. waterproof mascara, and eyeliner only on outer lid -- and you should be good...?

I am pretty light on the makeup. No liner. Waterproof mascara. I think it is just the shape of my face. I have really deep set eyes that are sort of buried in my lids. Which is why I wear minimal eye makeup to begin with. It will probably just take some getting used to. Harumph.
Maybe you have a sensitivity to something in the mascara, and it's making you tear up? Any way you could try another brand? It shouldn't be torment, ugh!

I have been wearing more makeup lately to get used to it. And also because I just got nice new makeup.
I WANT TO GAUGE MY EYES OUT! And I am afraid that if I clean my contacts or put drops in, I will get eye makeup everyone. Blerg.
