I wear Acuvue Oasis. Love them! I've worn glasses or contacts almost my entire life; I'm very nearsighted, and Acuvue Oasis are wonderful. I don't feel like my eyes are dried out, even when I've been doing computer work all day.
I wear Night & Days. You can wear them overnight but I don't because I have issues wearing contacts too long. The eye doctor should be able to help you decide which type is best for you.
I wear Acuvue Oasis. I didn't really have a choice - when I saw the optometrist, he examined my eyes, then said that it would be best to try these first. If this type didn't work, we would try something else. I think it kind of depends on the preference of the optometrist.
Edit: I saw an optometrist, not an ophthalmologist.
I believe mine are also the Acuvue Oasis and I love them too. I have been wearing contacts since I was 12ish and I work in front of a computer screen all day as well and I never have a problem with my eyes getting irritated or drying out.
I had an appointment this morning, and he told me that it's personal preference... I heard about the acuvue oasys, so they ordered me a trial (they don't have my script in stock). I was just wondering what else was out there :)
I'm suprised they didn't recommend something. Every doctor I have been to has.
I wear some really weird trifocal contacts. I'm in my early twenties and near about blind. :( But I've been in contacts since I was in 6th grade. My vision is much better in contacts than in glasses.
I used to use Acuvues but I am now using Air Optix. I like them even better than Acuvue Oasis! I had to make the switch initially because I need a very strong prescription and this is the only one that comes in quarter increase increments, but I am very glad I switched. I am actually going to the eye doc this weekend to see about gettind some dailies for the honeymoon.
Generally your contact brand should based on suggestions by your optometrist. They should know which ones would be best for yours eyes based on their shape, your lifestyle, etc. They should be able to recommend a brand or type for you and then give you samples to try out to make sure that they will work for you.
I wear Acuvue Advance. They are okay. Lately, my eyes have been really dry - but I think it is b/c it is so dry here. I think I want to try the Oasis though....
Ive worn glasses since about the 4th grade, got contacts around the 6th grade i think....I have had Acuvue 2 brand the whole time and haven't had any problems with them. I tried the Oasis ones as a 2 week trial once and it went great the first week, but by week 2 my eyes were dry I couldnt' keep them in for more than an hour or so....it was very strange. So I'm back to Acuvue 2 and I love them and recommend them. But it really will be a personal preference...your eyeballs could react differently to all different types, so just try different ones till you're comfortable!
Oh Night & Days are now Air Optix. So I have the same as rachel leigh.
I war Softlens Toric b/c I have a stigmatism. I saw the scariest thing on the discovery channel the other day about contact though so now I'm super paranoid!!! There was a tenn girl whose eye got infected by a parasite that was living on her cornea! They said people get it if they do not clean their contact cases well and if you happen to get a scratch on your eye, that's how they get in!
Sorry didn't mean to scare you if I did, but now I'm very freaked out!
I use Air Optix.
@KIKI82- OMG! I do know that you are supposed to replace your contact case every 3 mos, but didn't think that could happen.
***I have a friend who wore her contacts "too much" -never to bed- and got an ulcer on her eye. The ulcer started to "eat" her eye and she almost went blinde in one eye!
Yeah, you really need to make sure to use new solution every night, and replace the case every 3 months. Also, never putting contacts in your eye that have fallen on the ground without a full cleaning first.
@KIKI: I wouldn't be worried. They are actually pretty rare. I have been wearing contacts for 10 years and have never had a problem because I am careful about my eye care.
I wear the Acuvue Oasis. They were the only ones I tried that didn't dry out my eyes!
Even though I have contacts, I end up wearing my glasses most of the time though. Like in class, driving, watching TV...
I wear Acuvue Oasis too. I like them because I can wear them for a looooong time and they don't irritate my eyes.
@ KIKI82 and @ Miss Pizzelle...
Those stories are freaky!! I'll be *extra* diligent about my care now haha.
I have been wearing contacts for 14 years now and I like the Acuvue Oasis the best. One thing that I found that is really important is the kind of cleaner you use. I really like the Renu all in one.
I use Focus day and nights. I take them out every night though. I use the special "efforvescent" solution every night because my eyes are sensitive to normal solution.. and I don't have any issues. I used to wear gas-perm contacts, they were a little bit more maintenance, but only needed to be replaced like once a year.
If you aren't going to wear them much after the ceremony, I'd go with a cheaper box of contacts. There are some that are like 10 dollars for a box of 6.. they don't give as much oxygen to you eyes as some of the better ones do, but if you are only planning on wearing them once, it might not matter.
It is sort of preference, but my doc always recommends something.
i've been wearing contacts since i was 13 and in the 8th grade... sooo going on my 14th year... i remember back in the day i was on focus 1-2weeks... the last five years or so i've been using O2 optix. i had a real bad habit of sleeping in my contacts!
got rid of that habit a year or so ago... and now i can't go to bed without taking them out! :)
i've had freshlook colored contacts in between when i was up for a change.
my eyes are HORRIBLE -5.5 each eye, but i lucked out that my prescrip is the same in both eyes! (saves money on ordering contacts)
I wear Acuvue Oasis for astigmatism. The options are limited for people with astigmatism...but the Oasis ones are great and don't get dry!
I wear AquaClear, but I tend to switch types every couple of years.
Acuvue Moist 1 a days.
I got them mostly because I don't want to wear glasses on my wedding day but I want to see my guests' faces from a distance.
Exactly. My first time dress shopping prompted the trip to the optometrist to get contacts. I don't think that I can pull of glasses as an accessory on my wedding day. Some people can, but it looked super awkward for me.
:)
I wear the Acuvue Oasis too! I didn't like them at first b/c they made my eyes very dry, but I switched solutions and now they are great!
I actually work for an eye doctor, as well as wear contacts. Acuvue Oasys are really popular, and pretty good from everything I've heard. I personally wear Air Optix (for astigmatism) and they're great. I've had a lot of issues with contacts in the past so it's great to finally have some that work well.
@missjyc- your eyes actually aren't horrible, just bad. haha. I know it feels like it though. I'm about a -4, but my guy's are actually horrible, a -7.5. Oh, and I'm very jealous that both your eyes are the same prescription.

So I am a glasses-girl. I have worn glasses everyday for as long as I can remember... and have never really worn contacts. I want to make the switch... the only problem is that I'm overwhelmed by the choices available.
So bees....
What kind of contacts do you wear/ have worn successfully in the past?
