Suprise weekend trip to New York City (never been before), Tickets to American Idiot on Broadway (final week so they are featuring Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day), Hotel in Manhattan near Central Park, shopping on 5th Ave…..
…Finding out at 11:30 pm the night before our 9:00 am flight that Continental randomly cancelled our flight for a bull shit reason!!!!
My dear boy was so upset, he had been working on this surprise for us for months! And kept it a secret right up until 2 days before (he told me so I could get ready). And then at the last minute (literally!) it all fell apart.
He told me he planned to propose on top of the Rockerfeller Centre. (I knew that it was coming sometime soon, and we deisgned the ring together so the engagement itself was not a surprise) *Sigh* so much for the magical engagement that could have been.
I hate you Continental/United/Whoever you are now!!!!!

Ugh, that totally sucks. I’m so sorry. I would be writing one hell of a complaint letter if I were you.

That is horrible! I only fly Southwest if at all possible. Never once have had a problem with them.

oh that’s terrible!!!! I’m so sorry!!!! Ditto on the complaint letter!!

Boooo Continental! And it sounded so amazing. Your poor guy. I’m sure his next plan will be equally amazing. Pre-congrats! 🙂

omg that really sucks, I’m so sorry that happened to you 🙁

Wow that’s horrible. I wonder what their reason is to cancel the flight the night before (not like any reason is good enough)!

They didn’t offer to rebook?
I’m a business traveler and every airline I’ve ever used (all the majors) has rebooked folks on the next available flight. A 9 AM flight being cancelled would probably result in people being rebooked on flights throughout that day…depending on where you are, you could still make it.

I’m sorry the flight got cancelled.
Just because it wasn’t as originally planned doesn’t mean it can’t still be magical. My proposal should have been at the top of the Space Needle on my birthday, but my Fiance lost his job two days prior. He ended up proposing in our living room before we went to bed. I still love him to death. And you will too. But I’m still sorry it didn’t work out. But in the end, you’ll still be married to him. 🙂

I’m confused. If they scrap a flight they rebook on the next closest flight and upgrade the equipment if necessary. They wouldn’t cancel your itinerary. I’ve been flying continental my whole life and have always received the best service out of any of the airlines with them. I just don’t see how this is possible. They wouldn’t cancel and refund you, they would rebook you… even on another airline if necessary.

@Jeannine @ Small Chic: agreed
@Caizn: agreed! I only fly otherwise for business and delta/united/american always suck!

Oh my gosh that’s the worst!! I’m so sorry that happened to you!

@KLP2010: Perhaps the rebooked flight would’ve been too late to make the concert??
Either way, I’m sorry that happened. It’s frustrating when it’s out of our hands like that.

I’m sorry that happened to you but I feel like it’s being dramatized a bit too much.
Airlines don’t cancel flights for no reason. They cancel them for weather, mechanical, staffing concerns or not enough tickets sold.
They always go out of their way to rebook you, and if they can’t other airlines will honor your ticket.
I feel like we didn’t get the full story.
And to look on the bright side, you have a story to tell about your engagement for the rest of your life.
