If you’re five minutes apart, you should probably be getting your tush to the hospital, girlfriend!

And CONGRATULATIONS, by the way!!!

Can you call your doctor?  I called and got checked at 5 minutes apart and was already 4-5 cm.  I barely made it to the hospital before my water broke at 6 cm and started pushing an hour and a half later.  So I would definitely go ahead and go if I was you!  Good luck!

@mrshersch74:  Yeah my DH kept thanking me for my water not breaking in the car.

I was in denial too but my dad was visiting and he all but called the doctor for me.

Mine started getting really bad at 11pm, I was at the hospital by 3am. But my waters broke at home so it was pretty much ‘Yep! Time to go!’ I warn you though, the trip in the car sucks!

Good Luck!!

@mrshersch74:  You replied! I so thought you would be on the way to the hospital!! I am like you in that I want to labour at home as long as possible. I fear my DH will literally have to drag me there. What’s your plan right now? Wait till your water breaks then go?

@mrshersch74: “Let’s be honest I have no freakin plan.” <– Hysterical.

I totally hear you though. I do not want to spend ages in hospital in triage waiting and waiting because I am not far along enough, or worse be sent home. I can only imagine how depressing that would feel at the time! My hospital will speak to you on the phone and if you can talk through a contraction they tell you to stay home until you can’t. Not very scientific…

I am new to the pregnancy world, just 13 weeks now 🙂

If you’ve had them 4 min apart, lasting 60 sec each, you are probably good to go. I got reedy to go to the hospital around 8am when mine were 4 or 5 apart, but by the time I got near the hospital (60 min in rush hour) the contrations had spaced out again… so my parents checked into a nearby hotel and I labored there until 7pm when they got back down to 3-4 min apart. I sort of wish I’d just gone to the hospital in the morning, as that day was long! Maybe if I had gotten an epidural earlier, I would have progressed faster.

Anyway, this is excting news! Good luck!!!

Eek, exciting!  I hope all is well for you now!  I know this won’t be helpful at this point, but my doctor told me 5 mins apart for 1 hour, so based on where you were, I probably would have been headed to the hospital.  I’m glad I’m not the only one without a plan!

Happy laboring!  Good luck!!!
