So a few of you know I lost my ring .. I am going to replace it ASAP (already have filed a claim with insurance)… I was looking at the site where my ring came from (I am replacing it for an all but identical ring).. Here’s my conundrum..
I love my ring (the lost one).. It’s a simple, round cut black diamond
While looking around I found a rose cut black diamond ring
The specs aren’t incredibly different, but slightly, the rose cut would be a SLIGHT upgrade (.75ct)
There are also 2 other options (Neither of which I think I’ll take, but I’ll toss them out there)
there is this
it’s nearly 3ct! (that would all but double my current [lost] ring’s center stone, my current is 1.5ct)
the final option (I promise) is this
this ring would be a downgrade (half of my current center stone weight at .75ct), BUT it has a flat band that I can wear alone (the curved one, not so much [all the others come with the curved band].. I’ll likely NOT decide on this one, and just purchase the band down the road…
Please leave a comment on why you voted for what you voted for.
ETA: This all depends, of course, on what insurance gives me for my original ring…

I am so sorry you lost your ring :(. That would destroy me and I can understand how upset you are.
Go big this time! The rose cut is meh to me. I do like the 3 carat though :D.

@dewingedpixie: It sucks… a lot.. I’m just very very glad that we insured it… I’d be so screwed if we hadn’t (If I hadn’t FORCED it to be done)..

I personally love the rose cut but your original may have more sentimentality… Sorry about your lost ring 🙁

@Audrey2: It does, but I also love unique things (guess that’s kind obvious from the black diamonds)

Sorry about your ring! Hopefully it’ll turn up.
Voted for the last option with the flat band. Mostly because you can wear it solo if you wanted and probaby because I just wear a band and am partial. Hehe!
All the options you showed are great though!

I’m so sorry you lost your ring 🙁
I love your original, but I voted for the rose cut because it is still very close to what you had, but different enough to feel like something new. Plus, I am a big fan of rose cut stones. And, I feel like if I were in your position, I’d want something a little different.
Also, what happens if you get a new ring and find your original? Do you get to keep both? Do you have to pay back the insurance company? I if you do find your ering, and you get to keep both, it would be nice for them to be a little different IMO.
I can see how the three carat ring would be kind of tempting, bu think it would be too big.

All the pictures look the same to me.

@MercyK: I hope so!! I like the flat band, but I would likely purchase one down the line

Black diamonds, cool! love it, they are all pretty! I think the rose cut is even more unique. However I wonder if the table with the angles could be damaged with constant wear…I know diamonds are pretty tough though. My second choice would be your original set. The curved band makes it a bit different too.
When I first saw the title of your post I thought it said: “corundum” thought we were going to discuss other gems! Ha ha
Sorry about your original set. So glad you had insurance.

@mrsmay07: Thanks! I like the look of the rose cut because it is so different.. That thought, about the 2 same rings (if/when mine surfaces).. It might be nice to have an “alternate” ring… The 3ct just seems that it might be “too big”.. if that’s possible in diamonds lol
@peachacid: They’re similar, but different, if you look at the rose cut, the top is kinda… pointier..ish.. than the other 3.. the 3ct is bigger.. and the other 2 are rounds

I love your original ring, but I voted for the rose cut. I think this cut was made for black diamonds. It gives the black diamond, not neccessarily sparkle, but a little flash that makes it look elegant and stand out. Please post a picture as soon as you get your new ring. I can’t wait to see it.

@hiroshymatetrastar: Your first ring was very pretty, but I am really loving the rose cut. I think it shows off the black diamond better than the other cuts.

@gemgirl6: I love my black diamond! It catches a lot more attention than you would think.. I would think the rose cut would be ok.. I don’t see that it would break more easily (and I would insure it anyway!).. I am very glad I got insurance on my ring!
Theres also a princess cut, that I would consider if the sharp corners didn’t scare me (I’m clumsy and would worry about scratching myself, or a future child)
