We went to a tasting today at a caterer we’re considering, and everything was so so delicious.
We tried mini cubans, mini BLTs, and mini veggie burgers…which sounds rather blah, right? OH NO.
The cubans were basically little cut-outs of this amazing corn bread with an awesome barbeque sauce on it with pulled pork and some slaw on top. Delicious.
The BLTs were crispy bread with shallot mayonnaise, tomato jam, house made bacon, and crispy lettuce strips on top. The mayonnaise was house made, too, so it wasn’t cloying like regular mayo.
The veggie burgers were made with sweet potatoes and black beans, and were just served as little burgers with strawberry salsa on top. SO GOOD.
Then we had the main plates, which were: steak tips OR chicken with this lobster gratin. I don’t like lobster, but the gratin part was awesome. It was bits of lobsters stuffed into a ramekin with crumbly bready cheesey goodness. The chicken was moist and the steak was good, and each was served with delicious vegetables. The steak came with these awesome marinated and then grilled vegetables…OH they were good.
AND THEN came a SURPRISE…two little tiny paper cups that looked like they had butter in them. I said, “Oh, butter,” and my fiance was like, “No that’s dessert.” And the guy was like, “Corn ice cream.” It was so good. My word. My goodness. Holy toledo. Holy X-Files. DELICIOUS. Like everything you want corn to taste like, plus cold and creamy.
Just wanted to share. =) If their pricing is decent, we’re going with them.

You know I have never tried that or even heard of it but it sure sounds good. In mexico we make these corn tamales but are sweet so I can just imagine the ice cream tasting yummy.

I’ve been wanting to make corn ice cream with fresh corn from the farmer’s market. I want to swirl a nice salty caramel in it for candied corn ice cream.

I’ve had corn ice cream and it is really good. As is red bean ice cream (the sweet kind, found in Japanese restaurants usually), green tea ice cream, and chocolate chili ice cream.
Damn, now I want ice cream 🙂

I’ve never had corn icecream but it sounds amazing. I’ve had those sweet corn tamales that were mentioned and those are so good and sweet that they are practically dessert. Delicious!
Your menu sounds fantastic. I love that it’s more of a twist on traditional items – very “foodie” but still safe for more traditional eaters.

An ice cream shop I went to in Mexico had this but nobody was brave enough to try it.. Lol they also had cheese ice cream!

That sounds amazing! Now I really want to try making it.
There is a shop here that had a buttery boubon corn ice cream but i think just pure sweet corn would be even better.

@Rouquine: Hahahha! It was so good though. The guy was like, we can basically make any kind of ice cream you want.
OMG. ANY KIND.
