Ok, WHO eats in vertically??? That seems like it would get all over your nose, chin, forehead, eyes, etc! 
I eat it vertically ddubzz! I was hoping this thread would prove that I'm not as weird as everyone seem to think, but I guess not lol!!
since I can only vote once i picked hortizontal but since i am latina what i do to that corn on the cob is...
Put mayo, cheese, chili and butter on it!! ha ha
I eat it vertically because the typewriter method gets butter all over my cheeks!
mayo on corn? it is good? sounds wierd! lol.
here in MD we eat our Corn on the Cob with Old Bay and butter!

Horizontal here. But now I am intrugued. We bought corn the other day, so I think this time I will try it vertically!

I never in my life have seen or heard of anyone eating their corn vertically! Learn something new (and random as hell!) every day!
PS: i had corn on the cob last night! and i'm going to have more tonight! and i'm going to buy a ton of it at the store this weekend too since it's on sale BOOYAH.

Mu fiance made it the other night with lime, olive oil and garlic. My God, it was SOOO good! I've always had it with butter and salt and pepper, but this blew that out of the water.
To clear something up (and maybe I'm wrong that people are misunderstanding)... I think "vertical" does not mean holding the corn up/down, but rather holding it horizontally and spinning it as you eat, so you take one bite above/below the last rather than eating side by side.
I'm a horizontal person but I don't care too much. I've had my vertical days. My dad eats it randomly. Just bites wherever. its so weird. lol
@corgi - OH! that makes more sense. I'm picturing someone eating corn on the cob and having the top of it get butter in their bangs and on their glasses, hahaha
Ok, I voted for random because I eat the corn.one.kernel.at.a.time.
I don't know why, I've been doing it my whole life. And yes I am fully aware that it is very werid to do so.

I eat it vertically but the way Corgi described. I hold it horizontally but spin it and take a bite above/below the last before moving sideways. So i voted vertically.
If the corn is really good (like, perfect peak of summer sweet corn), then I eat the small-pointy end vertically to eat the best kernels first, then I eat the rest like a typewriter! If all kernels taste the same, then I just go straight typewriter style on it.
I like lime juice squeezed on my corn, or chili-butter! Nom nom!
Ha ha! I was totally picturing holding it vertical too! Thanks for clearing that up Corgi! Though maybe not because I totally would have tried it next time it was on the menu. :-D
I actually do a combination of both. A little horizonal here, a little vertical there.
I personally eat vertically around the ends then horizontally for the rest. Corn is oen of my top 3 fav foods, quite possibly #1. Our caterer is hauling out a huge grill so we can serve corn on the cob at the wedding - can't wait!!!!

Most people I have seen eat it horizontally. I've been known to eat it both ways.
Ok, the holding it up and down thing is hilarious! But yeah, I meant holding it horizontally and eating all around in a column, then moving the the left or right and doing a second column, etc.
hahaha...horizontal...i go (several) rows at a time....we just had a bbq at work, and as I took my first bite of corn, my juice went FLYING across the table at one of my coworkers....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA As i was thinking EXACTLY WHY I wont serve corn at the reception! dont want anyone losing an eye!!! lol.

Ok, settle a debate for me. I'm trying to figure out which is more common: eating corn on the cob by going back and forth horizontally, sort of like a type writer where you complete one long row before moving down to the next one, or eating it vertically by doing lots of short columns- like you were unwinding a spool of thread?
I love corn on the cob.
