Corner fireplaces are a pain in the neck for furniture arranging. Place it in the middle of the wall.
Middle of the wall. Corner ones can be really pretty, but in the middle of the wall usually gives you more flexibility in furniture arrangement.
We have a corner now and I hate it. Very difficult to decorate around.
I guess it depends on the layout of the room and where windows/doors are located. In general, though, I think it would be easier to arrange around if it was in the middle of the wall.
I guess I'm in the minority. I like corner fireplaces. We have one in our house now, and hubby's previous house also had a corner fireplace. The townhouse I had before we were married had a fireplace in the center of the wall and for me it was hard to work around. Although it may depend on the overall floorplan.
I prefer them in the middle of a wall.
I think middle of the wall would be easier to decorate around!
MIDDLE OF THE WALL!! We have a corner fireplace (and a small livingroom) and it's IMPOSSIBLE to arrange the furniture any decent way. We have a GORGEOUS fireplace but because it's in the corner we can't make it the focal point of the room; and because the living room is small we are severely limited on how we can arrange the furniture.
The only exception would be if you have a really large livingroom... Our livingroom setup is my second most hated thing about the house we live in (first being our yellow/orange counter top in our kitchen! lol)
Hmm, I've only had one in the middle of the wall and it worked great with our furniture arrangement. I think if your room is really big and it wasn't the focal point then a corner fireplace could work as a small reading/lounge area, but if it's where you're going to put your TV then place it in the middle of the wall.
We just bought a new house that has it in the middle of the wall. While we were house-shopping, we visited builders and they wanted to charge us a premium for middle of wall as it was considered an upgrade! We ended up buying a house less than 2 years old so we didn't have to deal with a builder, but I guess it's considered more desirable now if they're charging more for it.
Middle of the wall! It would give you alot more furniture arranging options.
I don't have advice on the fireplace, but I have to say, every time I read one of your posts, I want a Cherry Coke! Seriously, you're killing me! ;)
middle of the wall. we have an assymetrically located fireplace, (albeit not a corner one) and it's a pain in the butt.
@MalbecMe: LOL the funny thing is I drink Diet Coke more than Cherry Coke. Stupid calories!
Thanks for everyone's input! Middle of the wall it is! :)
@cherrycoke: Cherry Coke zero is just as yummy with out the calories. As for your question our fireplace is currently a corner and we love it but I definitely think it depends on the set up your going for and where doors and windows are.
@rrll10119: I dont' think Cherry Coke Zero tastes the same for some reason....I'll have to try it again to make sure :)
Ours is in the middle & I like it alot better that way. It saves room!
You can see ours here to the left of the photo:

@Mrs.Estep: Your house looks so inviting! :)
I really want to sit on your couch with a cup of coffee and turn on the fireplace!
It really depends on placement of the windows and if the room is open to the kitchen or hall, etc. In alot of cases if the fireplace is in the middle of the wall you look to lose that whole wall & if the other large wall is full of windows that can present a problem.... especially for trying to find a place for your TV &/or entertainment system.
After living with the fireplace in the middle of the wall I'm pretty much set on never having that like that again.
ETA: Here's a quick layout of how our house was.... we were literally stuck with putting our TV in the corner & considering you spend more time with that as a room focal point as opposed to a fireplace (used only in the cold months) we ran into more issues with putting furniture where you could still see the TV as opposed to the the fireplace.
With the Fireplace in the corner you don't have to have the couches facing the fireplace to still be able to enjoy it....

I would definitely prefer the middle of the wall. I've seen houses where it was in the corner and have always had trouble figuring out the best way to place furniture because if you face the couch to the fireplace it is at a weird angle compared to the rest of the room and if you face it a different direction the fireplace ends up not being a focal point anymore. I also agree that a corner fireplace makes a room seem smaller because you are limited in how you can arrange the furniture. I have always been a big fan of a fireplace in the middle of the back wall with windows on either side (if possible) and a flat screen tv mounted to the wall above the fireplace :)
In your sketch is there any way to put the fireplace on the adjacent wall? The one across from the kitchen and dining? It seems like you would be able to use the long space better that way.

In our apt, we have a corner fireplace. I always thought maybe it made the room look smaller, so when making plans to build our house, we wanted one in the middle of a wall (that's how we've seen them laid out in the homes we went to look at). However, now I am wondering if a corner fireplace IS the best idea, since there might be more ways to arrange your furniture around it. Which way would you prefer and why?
Please excuse my 2nd grade drawing, LOL
