At what point of the ceremony or reception is the song supposed to play?

As long as you two as a couple are a little goofy or silly, I think it’s perfect!  If you two tend to be more serious, then I’d do something else.  I love ’80s music though!

To me, the first song is a song that the couple loves, means something to them, and/or they just plain like. If you both like it, then go for it.

I think you should go for it, but I love 80’s music so I’m a little biased. I think it’s great to incorporate things that really represent you guys as a couple, and it sounds like this does.

I heard of this once, and I don’t know if it’s feasble, but how about a mashup of both of your favorite songs, instead? Some of his, some of yours.

I truly think the first dance song should have meaning and both bride and groom should like it, and it’s not just chosen because it fits the criteria of a first dance or it’s lyrics get the point across. But, that’s just me.

Try this: you and he should dance to it. If it just feels right for the two of you, then use it.

Is it corny, yes.  But if that’s who you guys are then go for it!  My FI want to use The Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing as our first dance.  We aren’t serious people, we figure the ceremony will be serious enough and the reception is for us to be our goofy selves.  We chose that song because for both of us growing up in the 80s Dirty Dancing was the pinnacle of romance.  I remember dancing to that song in my bedroom!
