that is a lot. Have you asked your regular stylist? Since my (amazing) gal knows my hair and i trust her i don't need to do a trial and it is saving me $$$!
I think it will depend a lot on your area, so maybe if you post your general location other people can give you more accurate answers. I'm in CA in a touristy area. To have my hair and make-up done by a woman who used to work in LA on tv/movie sets, it was $120.00. I could've gotten it cheaper, but I liked her and her credentials.
For the bride, where I go starts at $150.00, and is less expensive for the other girls in your wedding party. If you want them to do it somewhere besides the salon, it's double.
That sounds about right to me (less than what I have found in this area). For past weddings, it has cost me almost 100 just to get my hair done (as a bridesmaid...) I think it really depends on your region and what type of salon you are looking at.
I definitely think it depends on your area. I am in an expensive area, and I will be having someone come to me, but I can't find someone to do do just HAIR for under 120, much less hair & makeup. So I really think it depends on your location. Call around and ask other salons, even if you aren't planning on going to them, so you can get an idea of what the industry charges in your area. This will help you figure out if the cost you were given is average, or if your salon is over charging.
I just booked my MUA last night, she charges $125 including the trial for the bride and $50 for each additional person. She doesn't do hair.
It depends on where you live - $120/person for hair and makeup is a really good price for where I am!
Yes $120 is a bargain for where i live her in New York City. It definitely depends on your location. The prices in NYC usually start at $150 for a bride and for bridesmaids it starts at $75. To have hair done would be an additional $50 +.
Like BeachbrideT said, call around your area and find out what they charge to determine if you are getting a good deal or not.
Good Luck!
At my salon in a big city, it's $150 for the bride's hair/makup and $100 for other peoples' hair/makeup. And that doesn't include the trial!
yeah $150 is standard wher eI live, I hope to get a friend's rate with a hair stylist me and my FI became friends with on a Carribean cruise, we hung out in NYC and he works at John Barnett on 5th Avenue, good luck to me!
My bridal make up and hair cost $500 and my wedding party cost $200/each. That's from a reasonably priced stylist in my area. I have known brides who paid $1,200 and $500 for each person in the wedding party. Consider yourself lucky you live where you live?
It's a little high but if you consider the fact that it covers hair and makeup, it could be okay for your area? Around where I'll be married, a wedding updo seems to average around $75 and makeup can run from $30-50, more if you're the bride. I would also inquire if this price includes a trial or if the cost of the trial goes into your final total. And I'm pretty sure if you're looking for a MUA to come onsite to you, that will be a little more pricey than doing it in a salon. You could try to negotiate down a little for your wedding party if you know their hair/makeup won't be as involved as yours?
Wow. Glad I popped this open--I had no idea it would be that much!
My salon is $100 each girl for makeup/hair which is cheaper than when I was in wedding a year ago. It was $120 plus tip.
My hair and makeup trial was $100 and will cost the same amount on the day of the wedding. But since the person doing my hair will be travelling from LA to come down to my wedding, it will cost in total $450, plus $100 for each additional person who wants their hair done.
Where Im getting Married (Mississippi) it will cost me $150 for hair & make up. And $20 more if I want airbrush make up.
for bridesmaid it will cost $110 each.
Where we are getting married, there are not a lot of options for hair/make-up. It was really important to me to have someone come on-location to help get us ready, instead of going into an actual salon. I could not find anyone in the town that would do that so I started looking for stylists willing to travel. I found someone and after meeting her, I think she'll do a great job. She is charging me $85 for my hair/makeup, $40 per BM, $20 for flower girl, and $60 to travel (its close to a two-hour drive for her each way). I thought that was pretty good in comparison to what I had seen.
I paid $100 for the makeup trial, $100 for hair trial, and $130 on the day of for each service. My maids were $100 each and so was Mom. It totally depends on where you are, as in most industries. I looked around a lot. I think what I paid was a little on the higher side for Seattle but the artist I used (Suresh www.sureshbeauty.com) has amazing work experience and I loved what he did. I don't trust people who do both...seems a bit mediocre to me. Good luck!!
yup, I live in NYC and the cheapest makeup artist I found was $150 for bride and was able to talk her down to $65 for each birdesmaid. Hair not included. Each of my maids will just go and get their hair done the day before or something. We'll see. It seends on what style you want as well. For someone to do my hair ( a "natural hair" dresser for women of color) can charge upwards of $80 at a salon for a hairdo so imagine if I asked one of them to come work at my location!
I work right next to an Aveda salon. They have a Day for the Bride Package. It includes trial hair and makeup, the day of hair and makeup, mani and pedi for 240. Individually priced the up-do starts at 60 and the make up starts at 30. I havent looked around other places because I dont think that I could find something better priced and I feel like the have great stylists, so I know my hair would look great.
Maybe even try to negotiate the price with them if you do want to use them, they might try and give you a break if the whole wedding party goes there. Its always worth a shot to ask, you never know!
Oh another option that might not be the best idea, but some people have done it (I actually did it once for a prom up do) is to go to the local beauty training school. They can do it for half the price usually. In my case my up-do turned out nice, but I was worried at first just because it was a student. You could probably do the trial there, take pictures if you like it and then have a more qualified person do it on the day of.

Hi all! I am starting to look for someone who can do both hair & make-up, and I am wondering if the vendors I found are overpriced. What is a normal rate for 5 people? The vendors I found are charging about $120/person which seems like a lot to me, but maybe because I haven't even looked around yet. Help!
