Hi! I just had meetings with 2 of the 4 DJs I'm interviewing. The first charges $875 for 5 hours... with $175 for every additional hour.
The second charges $895 for 5 hours... with $150 for every additional hour.
Neither company charges for set up time OR for second systems. They begin 1/2 hour prior to ceremony so there can be music while people are seated and continue through the event. My ceremony begins at 11:30, with cocktails from noon-1 and reception from 1-5. So, I'm at $1050 or $1045 for 6 hours. No word on what the other 2 charge, yet, I meet them on Saturday.
Hope this helped!
Cheers,
LORETTA*
I paid $1000 for 5 hours hours of DJing (1 hour cocktail + 4 hours reception). That included 2 people: DJ + MC. I think the original price was $1600 and I negotiated down to $1000. The company was based in Dobbs Ferry, NY and they were super professional and fantastic.
Our DJ is $1600 for live piano music at the 1-1/2 cocktail hour and DJing services for the reception. We have been to several weddings where this particular DJ has played and he was fantastic! Plus he reminds us of the Wedding Singer which makes us chuckle!
Yeah I agree with JCM...prices vary. In NY I'm paying $1600 for a DJ and MC for just the reception which is about 4 hours...but I love the guys so I'm excited to have them!
Our DJ is $1200 for ceremony and reception coverage, which totals about 8 hours (1hr ceremony, 1 hr cocktail reception, 6hrs dinner/dancing). Our ceremony and reception are in different rooms and we are doing pictures before the ceremony, so he is bringing two different systems so as not to have any downtime between the end of the ceremony and the cocktail hour.
We are getting married in Canada.
I got my DJ at the wonderful price of $650, for unlimited time. It was one of my Wedding Fair finds, mentioned the wedding fair when talking to him and he knocked $100 off.
Alwyas make sure to ask about specials, sometimes they don't advertise them very well, especially if they are a smaller place.
Colorado here. I did some research on DJ's and then went to a Bridal Show. I won our DJ services for a discounted rate of $100 an hour with a 4 hour minimum.
I feel pretty lucky because our DJ can provide us music and lead in some of our family cultural dances I want and was very open to using the music we wanted for our grand entrance (the theme from Kill Bill Vol. 1) and going right into our first dance ("Everything" by Michael Buble) to our cutting the cake music (a muppets song).
YAY!
our wedding is in SoCal...
we're paying our DJ $1K for 6 hours and paying for his room at the hotel so he and his GF dont have to drive back to San Diego from Long Beach at 1am...
he DJs at a couple of clubs in SD, but since he's a friend of the fam he gave us a good deal

Does anyone know the going rate for a DJ? We are having an outside wedding. Ceremony starts at 3, cocktail hour 4-5 then dancing and a buffet dinner, i was thinking wedding will end around 9pm?? So the DJ will probably be there all day...Is $1100 too much?
