I'd love to know where anything less than $3000 is. That's our budget and we've been having a terrible time finding anything, which has resulted in not having a honeymoon with less than four weeks to go (we'll probably minimoon at this rate).
we just booked a deal via travelocity for hotel (including breakfast) for 5 nights/6 days and flights for $3200 for st. lucia in august--we figure lunches, dinners, and any other costs will probably make it closer to 4k in the end.
I have been looking into Jamaica for 6 nights at around $2700 including everything (all-inclusive resort, air). However, after talking to a travel agent from Apple Vacations this past weekend, she pointed out that we could go to Punta Cana for 1 week NON-STOP for the same price as Jamaica with the extra night (2700 approx).
My budget is $3000 and we have found plenty of deals for under that. It looks like you will also be leaving from the Burgh as we are :)
I am still undecided between islands but I think I'm now leaning towards the DR...sigh...this is so hard!
FI and I went to the DR last summer and it was just about $1000 each so about $2000 for the both of us. You will find the best deals for all inclusives at the DR or Mexico (think Cancun or Playa del Carmen). These are gorgeous spots with some really lovely resorts. In the DR we stayed at the Melia Caribe and it was amazing! Everything was perfect - the accomodations, the beach, the food - everything!
Try using bookit.com - they seem to have some of the lowest prices out there - and then compare them with what a travel agent can get you. Good luck!
Well, this is somewhat encouraging. A few of the places my fiance and I have looked at would have been, bare minimum, $5000 for a one-week stay with airfare. $3000ish is a LOT more doable!
We booked our honeymoon in St. Lucia at the Sandals Regency. It was just shy of $4,000 but that includes the airfare, a suite and $300 toward spa services. Its a lot of money. But we hear only great things about any Sandals resort so it was worth the risk. Once we decided against Europe I figured we should still do something special!
Doesn't Beaches offer al inclusives on the semi-cheap? I feel like they always give huge 65% discounts and it's been somewhere around 1500 a person including flights...i would look there...
EDIT: Just looked up Beaches...way to expensive...
check out www.Gate1travel.com
that's how we went on our honeymoon...great prices, and i'm sure you can find something that both you and FI like!
When I was looking a few months ago, I found that Breezes Resort in the Bahamas gave me a price of under $3000. In april 2010. Oh, and for 7 days.
I ended up going to Cancun because I found a resort for the about the same price, plus this resort in Cancun was newer and plus, its a shorter plane ride from Seattle than to Bahamas.
My trip to the carribean will have to wait.
Even though I would love to go to Sandals or Couples, I just can't afford to spend $4000 or more for 7 days.
My sister went to Sandals in St. Lucia. Not for her honeymoon, but she went for 4 days and that was $3300.
For me I would rather have a vacation for 7 days at a 4 star resort than 4 or 5 days at a 5 star resort.
By the way, Breezes Resort in the Bahamas is an adult only all inclusive... a definite plus!
We are going to Sandals Royal Bahamiam resort. It was $4,300, including airfare and a $250 spa credit, for 5 nights. We chose one of the higher level rooms with the butler service though, so you could easily spend less than that. Plus, the bahamas has a special right now where companions fly free - basically a buy one ticket get one free deal.
I would suggest looking at the lowest rooms at nicer resorts. Basically, you will be getting all of the same all inclusive benefits in a more budget friendly room. We're going to Sandals Negril, Jamica next week (eep!) and for 6 nights including flight from Boston we paid just about $3000. We don't have a suite or an ocean view for that price but were offered an upgrade for $600 to an ocean view concierge room with a mini bar and room service which we may have taken if it was our honeymoon.
For our honeymoon, we also booked one of the lower level rooms at Sandals St. Lucia (with a patio) 10 days, including flights works out to about $5,000.
Just got back from Punta Cana, DR (it was awesome!). 6 days/5 nights was 2200 for 2 people, all inclusive. Sounds like 3000 is doable! I booked through CheapCarribean.com, and it wasn't even the cheapest deal I found, I just liked the resort I chose better.
We are going on a 7 day cruise to the Caribbean! Everything totaled up to be $2.300... that's without airfare, but includes all of our excursions and drinks and everything!!!
Our honeymoon is $4300 for an all-inclusive in St. Thomas for 7 days. (Including airfare from Philly) This includes of course all food/drinks and gratuities. Plus some snorkling tours and a sunset cruise. Can't wait!
We're headed to Jamaica and while we haven't booked yet, it's definitely going to run us between $3200-$3500 total.
mexico and jamaica are by far the most affordable inclusives for the value. We booked the Secrets St. James in Montego Bay (BRAND NEW!!!) for next December for 5 nights adults only inclusive...including airfare and insurance and tax from Atlanta is was $2469. Good deal! Oh, and it is oceanfront and includes $200 of resort coupons.
@redherring
I just booked my all-inclusive 7 night trip to Punta Cana for $2400. Orbitz runs a nonstop flight (4 hrs) from Pittsburgh to the DR for way cheap! They run charters Fri-Fri or Mon-Mon. We were going to go to Jamaica but the flights were awful...and the trip was more expensive.
We're doing a 15 day caribbean cruise for $3600 for the two of us, and we could have gotten it a little cheaper had we not procrastinated in booking. The first 8 days are $1600 and the last 7 are $2000. I know this post is about all inclusive resorts, but cruises are all inclusive (except for the alcohol, but we brought a few bottles of wine on our last cruise) and they go to multiple destinations.
Go to the Dominican Republic. Its beautiful and less than $900 per person for an all inclusive trip. Here are some hotels: http://gocaribbean.about.com/od/hotelsandresor2/tp/DRallinclusives.htm
I've been going somewhere in the Caribbean (all over Mexico, St. Martin, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, and most recently Jamaica) with my sister for the last 14 years. We've never paid over $1500 each for a week of all-inclusive with airfare.
i'm staying at punta cana princess resorts, in dominican republic...my best friends stayed there and LOVED it...
its gorgeous from what i can see! beds on the beach ahhhhh
i put a $50 dep. at destinationweddings.com b/c we wanted a dest. wedd. that was quickly nixed by my parents BUT you can still use the website to book ur honeymoon...all i did was fill out a profile of my places of interest and my budget and my travel agent did the rest...we're spending more than originally planned - we picked the $2700 package istead of 2400 package one is geared more towards honeymooners. i'm glad i used a travel agent, i would be afraid to venture out and book my own resort and it be a disaster
also when our budget was much lower - like $2100 tops breezes bahamas was the best for your money
We just booked our honeymoon! Six nights at the Excellent Resort in Punta Cana from Los Angeles for $2650 including travel insurance. (Future hubby is very risk averse and it'll almost be hurricane season in mid-June.) I shopped around like crazy and found the cheapest non-redeye flights from travelocity. (tried orbitz, expedia, cheapcaribbean and allinclusiveoutlet). We're still going over budget on the wedding, but we only have a honeymoon registry, so every new payment goes straight towards the wedding. The parent and grandparent gifts will completely cover the honeymoon.
Breezes in the Bahamas All inclusive 7 nights + air fair for $2200
I voted for $5-6K, which is approximately what we are spending including airfare and some extra spending money. However, we have some added expenses because we are going from a rural town in the Northwest, so we have to rent a car to drive to a big airport, fly from Seattle, and even have to get a hotel for one of our layovers. I'd say without these factors, we'd be spending $4-5K. Also, we got a generous gift from my in-laws for our honeymoon, so we splurged and got a nicer room - we could have stayed at our resort for even cheaper if we'd gone with a more basic room.
We're going to Sandals Grande in St. Lucia. Soooo excited - I've heard great reviews from friends who have gone in recent years.
We are doing a week at a sandals in Jamacia for like 4500, including airfare..
luckily FI's parents are paying.. it's going to be HEAVEN!
We are doing a week at Sandals Regency St. Lucia in July. We are spending around $7000 with air fare/taxes included. We ended up going with one of the really nice butler suites but I do know that you can stay at a sandals for much cheaper in one of the more simpilar rooms.
We're staying at the new Secrets in Jamaica, 7 nights all incusive, plus free honeymoon package which includes: couples massage, white glove private dinner on beach and champagne and roses upon arrival for $3500 including airfare, hotel and car! Cant wait!
We're not honeymooning in the Caribbean (:(), but we've done several trips over the past few years! We've averaged around $3500 CAD, including taxes and airfare from Vancouver for a 5* all-inclusive. We've stayed in Cuba and in Mexico.
I actually leave for Mexico in 2 weeks! Yay :)
I voted for $5000-$6000 but we also had 8 nights/9 days and upgraded to a swim up pool suite at the Excellence Resort in Punta Cana. This included airfare from Southern CA. Try checking out cheapcaribbean.com, they have fantastic deals!
Look at the Divi Aruba All-Inclusive. It is awesome and out of the hurricane belt. Oh and Aruba is AWESOME.
I wanted to stay at the Excellence Playa Muejeres in Mexico - but 4 nights there would have been over $3k with airfare.
We are staying at the Aventura Spa Palace Resort on my mom's timeshare. I think it will be fine - and the hotel had great reviews on tripadvisor and almost all the same amenities as the Excellence. We are getting a week there and our outings to the historical sites are included. We are paying under $2k - which is the airfare and the all-inclusive fee for the timeshare program.
@redherring: I too live in Pittsburgh (well Monroeville to be exact) and my boyfriend and I have been to 2 all-inclusive Carribean resorts so far and have only ever spent up to $3343 (price for our Christmas trip this year).
You have to book atleast the flight in advance as the price for flights within a couple weeks soar.
We have gone to Sandals Montego Bay, Jamaica- 7 days, 6 nights and spent $1538 on everything.
Dreams Punta Cana, Dominican Republic 8 days, 7 nights for $1903 everything included.
My advice is for you to book as soon as possible, look for coupons online (we have found coupons for orbitz and expedia and have saved hundreds and even received a night free), and look into all-inclusive resorts.
Rivieria Maya and Los Cabos are both beautiful and really affordable, you should really look into it.
Good luck.

After a truly ridiculous amount of back-and-forth (refresher: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/honeymoon-wars-help-us-agree-on-something - thanks to everyone who offered suggestions), my fiance and I have finally decided to do a Caribbean all-inclusive. We're naturally still working on deciding which one, as we're incapable of quickly deciding anything honeymoon related. However, I was wondering whether people would be willing to share what they spent. We'd like to go for about a week, and the cost should include airfare. So, those of you who honeymooned in the Caribbean, what did you spend? And for those of you who have chosen the Caribbean but haven't gone yet, how much are you planning to spend? (And if anyone has specific resort recommendations, that would also be appreciated.)
Also, I have absolutely no idea why, but it won't let me list "<$1000" as an option, so for those folks lucky enough to spend that little, please just vote for $1000-$2000. Thanks!
