My brothers wife thought nothing of asking us to spend $250++ of our dresses (which were just standard chiffon bridesmaids dresses… not even a designer!). i’m trying to be a bit more mindful. I’m looking in the under $150 range (which is still steep for a dress for one occassion!)

Hmm… just depends on the style of the wedding, two weddings I have been in were in the 100-150 range, one was under 50 (we chose our own dresses), and one I am going to be in next year is $190 before alterations if we stick with the current favored dress.

I think it is nice to be mindful though that there are many, many more expenses that go into being a bridesmaid.

My Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses were $250, but I paid for half of each dress.

The dress I chose for my bridesmaids is $139 from DB but since I bought my dress there they all get $20 off. I don’t think that $119 is too unreasonable. Plus, they’re cute and I think the girls would be able to wear them again.

The dresses I chose for my BMs were between $80 and $85.

I think around $150 is acceptable because that price point will include a large selection of Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses from most bridal stores.  I’d be willing to go up to $200 personally but I would set a cap at about $200.

I think $100-$250 is the average cost of Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses at the bridal salons…so $110-$150 sounds perfectly fine to me.

I believe mine were $150 with $30 off making them $120.  You can usually find coupons at bridal shows or get discounts if you get them at the same place you got your dress.  I had a coupon.

Where are you all finding these reasonably priced dresses?  All I asked of my two girls was that they choose a floor-length dress.  They don’t have to match or even wear the same color.  Neither of them has seen anything they like for under $150.  One is plus-size and even if she does find something close to that range, there seems to always be an upcharge for her size.  I’m worried about her getting priced out with alterations.  I’m not going to have a shower or a bachelorette party, so they have no expenses there.  I’m paying for their hair and makeup, and they can wear whatever shoes they want.  Still, I feel like the dresses themselves are burden enough.  Should I be offering to pay a portion of that expense too?

I was trying to stay between $100 – 150 for my dresses, and I ended up with a dress that was $162. I actually think my dress was a little on the expensive side, so I would say anything over $150 might be too expensive in your situation. I would try to at least stick under $150.

My Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses were about $150, and after discounts my BMs got them for about $120 at Alfred Angelo.
