For 8 musicians, that's a pretty good price. I'm a trained singer, and I usually receive $100-150 per ceremony depending on how many songs I'm doing, and that doesn't include the pianist/organist (probably another $100-200).
You could get away with a solo singer....having a large group in the middle of a ceremony might be very loud and surprising.
thanks for the input ladies.
kieverkira - it is good to know that this is a decent price
dreambml - that is a good point. i was thinking it could be a build up kind of thing ... sort of like th original song, witha little inspiration from the love actually "all you need is love" scene. but i think you might be right that in the middles of the ceremony, this may not work... :( perhaps back to the drawing board?
Not necessarily....you could still do that song, but maybe even trim down the size of the group that performs it. Like a pianist and vocalist, strings, pianist, vocalist, vocalist & strings....I don't know the music so I don't know what you'd need. Flute is nice for ceremony as well...

Hi all! My fiance and I love the song "You raise me up" but the version sang by the Celtic Women. If you have not heard it, you can see it on youtube. it just sounds so angelic and dreamy and beautiful!
Anyways, we wanted this song for our blessing song during the lighting of the unity candles at the ceremony but we were having trouble finding someone(s) with the right voice for it. The coordinator at the church said contacted a small women's group that sings and travels at their church and they are willing to sing the song for me. It will be 5 singers with 3 guitarists (I really wanted the fiddle, but I don't think it will work out), and the cost will be $500. Is that too much? we really didn't want to spend more than $150-200 on the ceremony musician. How much are you guys spending on ceremony music? Thanks!
