I just started researching photographers and I cannot believe how expensive they are!
I have $1500 budgeted for one and that seems to get me pretty much nothing except some okay photos!
How much did you all spend on photography?

@missjewels: My photographer was 1500 for 8 hours, an engagment shoot, a 11X17 print of my favorite picture, album design, save the date design and all of the files for all of my pictures.
Don’t give up, but don’t settle for something you don’t really like!

I think this is the one area where you might want to spend as much as you are comfortable spending. Don’t settle and keep searching, interviewing, etc. The photos last a lifetime.

3,100 is how much we paid but I’ve seen photogs range from anywhere between 1000 and 6000.

$1300 (with a referral discount) for 8 hours, 2 photographers, engagement session, all pictures on a disc in a custom designed case (e-session)/album (wedding), etc. etc. I went back to the website of my original choice (YEARS ago, I happened to stumble on her site) and realized that her pictures really aren’t that great, and her packages start at 3x what our package is. Apparently they only take a few weddings a year? I’m really happy with our photographer and I’m glad I found her.

I found a gem of a photographer who was starting out in the wedding field but has been a fashion photographer for a long time. I was a former model so we instantly clicked and brainstormed about more couture shots, etc. I also wanted all the pictures he took unedited on a CD, so not all the reputable established ones were willing to do that. They were too afraid it would harm their business if the photos leaked out unedited. I just wanted the day how it was, without perfect sand or perfect skin, just us, real us 🙂 He gave us both the CD with everything (~800) and about 200 editted images in his style for $1000. The editted images were out of this world beautiful, I used those to promote him.
We made the wedding album out of the “real us” images as we planned and it is super special to us. My parents ended up with a large copy of one of the edited shots because they wanted it look stunning for all their friends. I laughed and gave her the editted images in case she wanted more of a “perfect” daugther around.

I think mine will be about $1700. I’m meeting with several this weekend, and my favorite, of course, is the most expensive.

We are paying $1000 for three hours from a top photographer in our area (and that’s with a family and friends discount). You might want to see if some of them will book for less time and a price in your budget.

It all depends on where you live. Oxford, OH is going to be radically cheaper than a major city, especially one like San Fran, Boston, NYC, etc.
We paid a little over $5000 for a Boston photographer. But, she was amazzzzzzing, and she traveled and shot our rehearsal dinner on top of the wedding.

I paid $1000- I got a discount because I didn’t need an engagement shoot (my sis took them instead). Also the girl doing them is fairly new to the field. Some people say this is a no-no, but just because you don’t have 20 years of expeience doesn’t always make you a better photographer! I hae been watching her stuff and I like it so far, she has a great attitiude, and because my sister knows her I know that she will be comfortable with our crowd. I am getting a CD of the images and some prints (I think). In my area you can find good/ great photographers for that price, but it really depends on where you live and the market there!

I am spending between $1800 and I am considering $3000. I want really good photography, but not at an arm and a leg. Certain locations are way different. IE, in Utah I got 8 hours of coverage plus engagements for $1800, where in Banff 2 hours of photography alone was $1275.

our original price was $1635, but we paid off our balance within a month of booking her, so we got a discount for that. our final price was $1472. included in our package is:
-a destination photoshoot (and an 11×14 print)
-unlimited wedding day coverage
-a throw blanket w/ photo weave (we chose not to get this)
-a dvd slideshow/highlight reel
-1 16×20 print and 1 11×14 print
-website w/ ordering gallery and invitations (to the website) for the guests
-parents’ gifts (11×14 print wrapped and delivered)
-all digital files from the engagement shoot and wedding day
we also added an 8×10 print for each of our grandmothers and a photo guestbook.

Keep looking!!! I found an amazing pro photographer that’s doing the whole day of the wedding for $800. I looked through about 40 photographers in my area and couldn’t find anything in my budget that I actually liked, but then I found her on Craigslist. She lives in California but has friends/family in my area so she was looking for excuses to travel and ways to make some money while visitng. And I got a discount for mentioning her ad and because the wedding’s close to another that she’s already booked. Try new sources – Craigslist, local colleges, friends…

Where are you getting married? Maybe a bee can make a good recommendation?

For photography and video we are paying about $6200. It also depends on where you live, we are in the NYC area.
