Hi ladies! I was thinking about adding a halo setting around my center stone. Tiny round diamonds to match my wedding bands.
Any idea what this might cost to have reworked? I thought it might be a nice way to widen my center stone without necessarily telling my FI i need a new center stone. I’ve posted before about my ring being very *band*ish and my center stone being overhwelmed. Halo bands are so pretty!
Pics of mine below. What do you think?

First, your center stone is beautiful! Is it a cushion cut?
Hmmm….why don’t you ask a jewlery store that does custom designs for a quote? I’m definitely NOT an expert, and wonder if you can just add the halo setting — or if you’d need to get an entirely new mounting and band.

Yes it is a cushion. I love my cushion, but it’s just not wide enough. I don’t want to say *big enough* lol cuz it’s a carat. It’s big enough, it’s just not wide enough. I’m going to swing by a store on my way home to see the cost. I dont think the stones will be expensive…i’m thinking maybe a small chunk for the handiwork.
I was thinking they could just pop my stone into a new setting with the halo (pretty common, right?) and pop off my old setting and call it a day, right? I know for a fact that the actual prongs/setting that hold the stone in place (particularly my cathedral setting) is often interchangeable. Oh, it’s called the Head. That’s what it is.
I looked up halo stones in general, about $1500 for ones that go all around the side. For the whole semi-mount set. I can’t imagine the halo around my center would be more than like, .2 carats or something teeny anyways.

What does the side profile look like?
They may be able to pop off the head and replace it with a halo, but I don’t know how that would impact your sidestones and the integrity of your setting. Because you want to make your diamond "wider," the jeweler could just rest the new head on top and cover your sidestones as well as increase the height of your setting.
