Greetings!  I just wanted to share our little story for the week with anyone interested in shipping their decor and favors in advance.  My fiance and I stayed up late for days getting all of our major projects finished - burning 50 cds, making label designs, info packets, lighting, decor, you name it, the list goes on.  It took forever but was totally worth it!  FH took the big boxes to fedex, thinking that our 12 and 25 (ish) boxes might cost a hundred or something to ship.  Nope!! $450.  So now we've busted our buns with weeks to spare, and we are just going to check that baby as luggage.  It's easier for us to tip heavily for any baggage handler w/ those boxes and our luggage than send them internationally.

Just a thought for you bees!  Remember the cost of shipping when calculating your budget.  To put that in perspective, since we DIY'ed everything - invites, in room favors, etc. - the cost to ship the boxes was 4 X the cost of the contents! Haha!

OMG! Martha's Destination MS Weddings mag mentioned this and I had never thought how horrible that must be for you DW brides! Glad you figured out a way around it!

we hadn't even included everything in our shipment and boy was it expensive.  Fiance said "Are you sitting down?" before telling me the cost.  It was actually so high that I found it funny, instead of daunting.  We'll just tip our way out of annoying people with our extra luggage, and pack quite lightly and do laundry halfway through our trip.  Only we'll know that we're wearing the exact same clothes on our honeymoon as the wedding week :)

There are so many things that i've wanted to do that i've just X'ed off the list, b/c it'd be a pain in the toosh to travel with.  No complaints about DW, though - just have to think a little differently!

$450!!  Holy moly!!  We shipped 4 huge boxes to our destination wedding and I don't remember it being anywhere close to that much.  Maybe I'm blocking out that memory?  I thought it was more like $160 for us.  Perhaps our boxes were lighter?  Did you ship abroad?  We were still within the US.  I know nothing about how they determine that stuff.  Great idea to remind people of this though!

Eh, our hotel doesn't have tvs in the room, so we printed out tons of info sheets and things and the weight added up.  Maybe it was the time constraint (3 weeks). Maybe my FH put in a few cinderblocks.  I don't know how it happened, haha. We wanted to ship from Florida to Jamaica.

Awesome you were able to do it more affordably!  Though there won't be a next time for me, this is definitely a lesson learned to procrastinate just a little less :)

LOL @ your FH putting in cinderblocks... "This will be great as a ballast in case the box ever needs to float!" I could totally see someone I know saying that and justifying it...

Great point! We are getting married in the DR and Im really cutting back on the favors and decorations so that we can carry them on with us without going broke :) For instance a semi private dinner is included in the package and they set the table up nicely, not in our colors but Ive accepted that. Therefore, we will only bring centerpieces for our reception/party after the dinner :)

Maybe because it was international shipping?  We had a huge heavy box (with my dress and a lot of other stuff for the wedding) that we sent by FedEx (from NYC to Hawaii) and it was about $150 (definitely not more than $200).  I'm glad we shipped our 3 boxes though because we barely fit everything in the bags we did bring on the plane.  Also, our coordinator had it all before we left home and it was worth the peace of mind while traveling to know our wedding clothes were already there safely!
