Activities - I did canopy tour & white water rafting there. The rafting I'd say was much like elsewhere, but still fun. I'd never done the canopy (zip lines) before, so that was a neat experience.
La Paz Waterfall garden was nice. They had a hummingbird area too where you can get right up next to them. Manual Antonio is a must, and visit Cafe Milagro while in Quepos... great coffee!
I'm not sure what kind of resort/hotel you're looking for but La Pura Vida was really cute place to stay if you plan to be in that area (I dont think it was near a beach) for a smaller budget, its not one of those glitzy resorts for sure. I used it as a passing though. They have a bunch individual little buildings on the property that you get to yourself, so you're not in a room right next to someone else. And the owners, a husband/wife team were so nice, they even packed us breakfast to go in the mornings since we were on the run and didnt have time to eat and let us store our luggage there until we came back a few days later from a short excursion.
Thats sort of all I can remember from being there 5 years ago.
You should check when rainy season is.. I'm pretty sure it begins in May, not sure when it ends.
Not sure how long you're going for but we spent a week in the mountains (heredia, arenal and monteverde) and then a week at the beach (montezuma, dominical). I loved it that way really kept things neat and a little bit of everything. Arenal has some nice hot springs that probably would be romantic for a honeymoon.
But give a little more info? Are you a relaxing couple, really adventurous, hiking, biking, fancy hotels, eco hotels, wildlife? There's lots of stuff to do there so it really depends on your interests what areas you should go to.
We stayed in the Tamarindo area and loved it. Cute town, great beaches. We also went to a few beaches/areas north and south and they weren't as good. You can take surf lessons there. We did excursions to Nicaragua and the rainforest/Arenal/hot springs. Everything was so beautiful and people were very nice.
We're going in August. We only have 7 days so we're flying into Liberia and the going to Arenal and Tamarindo. We might go down to Manuel Antonio, but not sure if we want to spend so much time driving... In my research I've heard great things about pretty much everywhere; it makes it hard to choose!
We are leaving to Costa Rica in the AM... we'll let you know how it goes when we return :)
