We are going to be staying at the Hilton Papagayo... I have a friend who used to live in Costa Rica and highly recommended that resort. Have you checked Trip Advisor yet? The reviews on the Riu Guanacaste really deterred us from that resort. (Although, I guess there were a few bad reviews on the Hilton - but having the recommendation from our friend helped us look past them.) The Hilton was more reasonable as well, we got 7 nights for $299/each night for both of us, which is a steal!
Happy planning!
I would recommend the Westin-formerly the Paradisus.
The only reason we aren't going to Costa Rica is because we heard not so amazing things about the RIU, even RIU-dedicated people (and there are a lot of them) don't like the RIU in Costa Rica.
@Bliss Honeymoons: Have you been to that resort? We were really interested in it, but it didn't look like it was close to the ocean - how far away from the ocean was it?
@cheapchicbride - I checked out the reviews on tripadvisor. They definitely make me a bit nervous. When will you be traveling to Hilton Papagayo? Have you heard anything about nightlife?
I lived in costa rica for a year and let me tell you, it is amazing! I agree with some others and say def. use trip advisor. Whichever you pick Costa Rica is fantastic and the people are even nicer! If you have any questions you can def. PM me! I did a lot of traveling to non tourist spots as well and that was the best!
I'm getting married and honeymooning at the Hilton papagayo this fall, I researched a lot, and the Hilton seemed the best fit!
@cheapchicbride; did your friend give you specifics as to why she recommended the Hilton? Just curious!
We stayed at a beautiful place. The staff was wonderful and everything in the pacakge is created around what you want.

Hi bees, I'm hoping that you can help. My FH is in the process of booking/researching our honeymoon, but I'd like to help him a little bit. We know that we want to go to Costa Rica and our to do list includes: seeing the volcano, ziplining, visiting the cloud forest, sunbathing, and eating great food. We plan on staying at the Arenal Volcano for two nights and a hotel near the Cloudforest for one. From there, we'll spend 5 nights at a resort. What resort you ask? Well, that's where we are stuck. He's narrowed it down to two resorts, the Riu Guanacaste and the Hilton Papagayo. They both seem fabulous! The Riu seems to have more "nightlife" and the Hilton advertises some great excursions. Has anyone stayed at either one? The Riu doesn't have many excursions listed. Any advice would be appreciated!
