I can’t help too much other than to say that I went to costa rica a few years ago and it was awesome! I think you will love it, but others can probably help more on specifics as mine was an organized school trip.

My suggestion is to go to two places. The adventure stuff is all in the jungle, like near Arenal or Monteverde. If you stay in an all-inclusive near the beach, you’ll have to take really long trips into the jungle for day trips.

Here’s what we did (just went in February!) 4 days in Arenal at the Lost Iguana. We did ziplining, hiking, hanging bridges, and kayaking. The hotel was GORGEOUS, totally recommend it!

Then we did 5 nights on the pacific coast at the Flamingo Resort. We did all-inclusive and it was great. The food was good and the drinks were strong! The resort is right on the beach at Playa Flamingo, Just north of Tamarindo. The beach was beautiful and so was the pool. We did a catamaran tour, but other than that we just lounged all day and walked on the beach. Tons of privacy and romantic sunsets every night!

Feel free to PM me with more questions! CR is amazing!

Def agree with @pinkandsparkly!  I went with some girlfriends 2 years ago and we had an amazing time!  You have have have to stay at the Tabacon resort near the Arenal volcano.  Seriously, the most romantic place you’ll ever go!  Too bad it was just a girls trip at the time 🙂  We spent the second half of our trip on the beach in Manuel Antonio, great beaches, great restaurants!

@ashleyswedding:  We hired a driver.  It wasn’t as expensive as I thought and the guys were super nice!  We actually went to Manuel Antonio first, so we had them take us from San Jose airport to Manuel Antonio and then pick us up from there to take us to Arenal.  It was cheaper than flying and I would NOT recommend driving yourself.  The roads are windy and often not paved.  It took about 6 hrs to get from MA to arenal, but on a map it looked like it would only be 3hrs.  There are small airports around where you can take small planes around the country.  Quepos is next door to MA and we thought about flying, but some of the other girls I was with didn’t want to spend the money.  As I recall though, it was only like 80 bucks.  Well worth it for a honeymoon I’d say!

@pinkandsparkly:  We stayed at Flamingo resort too!!  We didn’t do all inclusive but we loved the resort!

There’s also a resort in Rincon de la Vieja (about 2 hours from Playa Flamingo) that offers ziplining, water slides, hiking, hanging bridges, horseback riding, etc.  We took a day trip there when we were staying at Playa Flamingo.

The difficult thing about Costa Rica is that everything is SO far from everything else.  We had visions of traipsing all over the whole country, but everything is just a very long drive.

@call.me.red:  Agree about Tabacon, I have stayed there before too!!  It was SO romantic and beautiful.  The hot springs are incredible.  Here is a picture of the swim up bar in the hot spring!
