Walmart is doing my cupcakes and I am going to add blueberries, raspberries and blackberries to the top. I think that their cupcakes are really good and they are $5.00 per dozen! Both Sams and Costco have a huge bakery area, so I would assume that they will do whatever you want.
I know my CostCo does made-to-order sheet cakes. I had to go in person to the bakery counter, and they gave me an order form with flavor/decoration/icing options and prices. I believe the cake I ordered from them was a 2-layer Boston cream pie cake with a message written on it and some fancy edging (1/2 sheet) for about $35.00. It was really good, and actually huge, so they recommended it would fee like 40 people, but I think it could've fed more like 60 people. Prices probably vary by store, though, so I would ask at the bakery department of your local store.
I don't know if they do an actual wedding style cake, but they do sheet cakes and they are VERY good. That's what my brother had at his wedding. I think they are like $20ish dollars to feed like 75. I could be a little off, but I would advise checking into it because they are good, and cheap. Sam's is where my bro got his.
Yes, I think most (or all) Costcos do sheet cakes of various sizes, and cupcakes - but not traditional multi tier wedding cakes.
Mrs. Spring is probably much closer to the price point on this one... but definitely check it out.
I did see a three tier cake stand at Sam's. You could do 3 round cakes (the same size) decorated appropriately for a wedding to cut.
ME!!!!! I totally did it.
They fed 50 people each and were $15.99 apiece I think? $17.99 for carrot cake. Our flavors were:
White with strawberry mousse and white buttercream
Carrot cake with apricot mousse and cream cheeese (sounds weird, isn't)
chocolate with chocolate mouss and white buttercream
They were really cheap and everyone got HUGE freakin' pieces and was all "omg ur cake is so good...what bakery?" then was shocked it was Costco. I love that feeling =]
Sam's Club DOES do cake, but they do NOT offer the filling. Costco offers fillings. The cheesecake filling was weird/dense/moussey and kinda heavy feeling. But these 3 were good.
I just did sheet cakes tho. Ours did wedding cakes, too, but how could I turn down $16/cake?
I LOVE Costco/BJs/Sam's Club cakes - so delicious. You do have to order them in person from the bakery where you want to pick it up from. Don't forget, you'll need a membership (or the person picking up the cakes and paying for them will need a membership).
Thanks for the info ladies! I too am planning to skip the traditional wedding cake (and wedding cake price gouging) and opt for something from the local grocery store bakery department. There's a Sam's for sure near my parents, and I'll have to see if they have a Costco, too. For any Pgh brides, we're also considering Giant Eagle cupcakes after they beat out a lot of the fancy bakeries in this taste test: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07084/771807-34.stm
I definitely have seen wedding cake displays at our local Sams Club, but I am not for sure how much they cost. (sorry) However, my family always buys their sheet cake for bdays and yes they are pretty tasty!
@daydreamwanderer- Will Cold Stone allow you to put your own design on the cake or is basically how their normal ice cream cakes appear? Just curious because I have been thinking about taking this route. I LOVE COLDSTONE!
I've heard Costco cakes are freaking tasty! I think it's such an awesome idea!
I'll confirm that the Costco sheet cakes are delicious. The Costco cakes around here cost about $20 and feed a lot of people, the number depends on the size of the slices. I know Sam's Club at least does round cakes, but Costco's taste better anyway, so I've never really looked into it.
Totally jumping on the Costco bandwagon here. Their cakes are DELICIOUS.
Checked my local Sam's Club/Costco bakeries and they do not make round tiered wedding cakes. Does anyone have a picture of their wedding cake from Sam's Club/Costco?
Thanks!
Found this picture on Sam's Club website:

l personally prefer Sam's Club cake - went to a First Communion yesterday and the cake was from there and was beautifully decorated.
Hmm, maybe it is just me, but don`t you guys want to have a nice (looking and tasting) wedding cake on your wedding day? Have you ever considered what goes into those Costco or WalMart cakes - the only real ingredient is flour, and the rest is not such a mystery, instead of butter a vegetable shortening, that personally leaves me gagging, and then instead of real wholesome ingredients some other substitutes. But maybe it is just me, I would rather have a nice cake than too many bridesmaids (we are having only a best man and maid of honor).

Okay, I was SURE I had seen someone on here mention doing Costco for wedding cakes, but I can't find anything about it on their website!
Can anyone confirm or deny whether Costco does wedding cake? Or at least sheet cake (since that's what we'd do, with a small cake to cut)? Their website doesn't even have sheet cake!
Same for Sam's Club... anybody know if they do cake?
If you've had/ordered/used either of these bakeries, do you remember how much their sheet cakes cost and how many they feed? And whether they're any good?
I'm thinking we'll either go that route, or do ice cream cakes from Cold Stone ($49.99 for a 12" x 18" cake, which they say feeds 50!)
