I just found out we have access to a cotton candy machine. (family member owns one)

We are having an ourdoor wedding with a lot of children.

Do you think having cotton candy would be a good idea?

I would of coarse provide lots of wipes for sticky fingers.

YES. Secretly a kid at heart here, I would go wild for a cotton candy machine. (And I'm normally one of those stuffy "everything is tacky" people!)

Definitely! You can make the wipes a cute addition to the overall decor - maybe put them inside a decorated box with a handmade sign to let everyone know they're there. Cotton candy is huge for kids (and lots of adults!) and I'm sure it'd be a hit.

I actually had the same idea.  I come from a family of carnies (literally, lol) so I have tons of access to cotton candy machines.  However, my mom warned me not to get one unless I hired someone to operate it.  She said it is a lot more difficult than it looks and it has to be done fast.  Apparently, there is a "trick" to it that those who know how to operate can do.  She said if you let people do it themseleves and they are not fast enough the stuff melts and makes a huge mess everywhere.  Then you have to shut down the machine and clean it before it can be used again.

Broke my heart.  Lol.  I don't want to be a downer just want you to know what you are getting yourself into!

@RahlyRah:  Oh wow. Good to know. I will make sure whoever is in charge of it knows how to use it or at least practices a few times first. Thank you!

we had a very formal museum wedding--and we STILL had cotton candy!

I say go for it--one hundred percent!!!!!

It was our guests' absolute favorite... i loved going around and seeing everyone's blue tongues!

Just make sure you have someone operating it. Also realize you are giving children pure sugar. Good luck :)

(But I'm for it because I would want some!)

I don't like cotton candy (too sweet), but for an outdoor wedding with lots of kids I think it's a very fun idea.

I was noticing online that some companies who specifically cater this have a variety of flavors you can choose from. Guests would definitely remember that as well.

I say yes! Not sure if you are serving alcohol but I saw on an old episode of My Fair Wedding they filled martini glasses with big glops of pink cotton candy and then poured vodka (I think) over the cotton candy. It turned into a beautiful pink drink.
