Why am I so obsessed with the invitations even though 90% of them are getting tossed after the ceremony?

I know this is a good place to save money, but I keep looking at the fancy invites and wanting them!

Sometimes my bride brain baffles me!

Because they're pretty and fun to make? (If you're DIYing, that is.) I was the same way!

If you want fancy invites, then you want fancy invites. If you can afford it, man up and buy fancy invites!

Mine are *quite* expensive and I wouldn't have it any other way :)

    Thanks!

The practical part of me knows I should go simple and inexpensive, but the little girl bride in me likes the pretty ones!

    I really appreciate the comments!

Anybody get the invites of their dreams and totally regret it?

I LOVE invitations because I love paper and I actually save invitations from peoples weddings!!! I absolutely loved my invitations and didnt feel like I broke the bank for them at all. I got many compliments on them from our guests! I helped customize them from a design that I saw off etsy. Also, the invitation sets the tone for the whole wedding so to me they are very important!

    Here are our invites :-)

@ginnyc: Can you give us an idea of what you're envisioning? You say "expensive" but what you're thinking might not even be that bad, pricewise!

(Plus, as a paper-head, I love hearing what people's invites are like :)

What you are going through is perfectly normal. I also wanted invitations that were way over our budget, so I decided to make ours. They are unique and totally us and look like they cost a fortune, but didn't. Here is a link in another post, if you want to check them out.

Well, to give some background, I'm pretty frugal by nature (have been either a teacher or student my adult life).  Normally, I"m all about the DIY, but things are going to be really hectic between now and the wedding so I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

Anyway, I'm torn between a practical option that would probably cost about a hundred dollars and a less practical (gateway folds) that will cost probably about double that plus extra postage (but the guests could untie the bow like they're unwrapping a present screams the "I want the pretty invites" bride in me).

The weird thing is that, before all this wedding stuff happened, i would have always chosen the more practical less expensive option.  Ever feel totally surprised by what you want and how you've changed since becoming engaged?

@pitbull lover and noritake22, both of your invitations are absolutely lovely!  Good work on those!

    Because they're so pretty!

I think sometimes because it's the first piece of your wedding that you get to really see come to fruition, there's more pressure for it to be perfect.

Expensive invites are fun to drool over.. but in the end I'm going with cheapies from 123 print or davids bridal..

I am a HUGE paper person too!  I send invites out for everything! we are having a halloween party this year - invites got sent.  thanksgiving with all our friends - invitations.  cookie exchange party, new years cocktail party, mothers day brunch, easter dinner, EVERYTHING gets an invite.

this is the thing - boring invitations get tossed into the trash.  i just sent out these AMAZING invitations (that will be featured on a couple paper blogs this week) and got such amazing responses: "they really set the tone and theme for the party" (yes, my girlfriend said those exact words, it cracked me up!) one of my hubbys guy friends who SWORE he would NEVER wear a costume (too cool for that) went out and bought one - and everyone has them  up on their frig.

when your invitations are awesome, set the tone for your event, preview your guests to your theme, style, and formality.  i think they are beyond important and it kinda makes me a little sick that brides just dont care about them.

I DIYed my invites and LOVED THEM. They were exactly what I wanted and so cost efficient. If you have the time, I strongly encourage it.

Ok, after a chat with my FI (and dragging him to the paper store) we decided to go with the pretty, labor intensive ones.  Hey, we're only getting married once, right!
