I could never imagine a ring being a deal breaker for us.  If he would have proposed with a piece of string I would have said yes!  Marriage is so much more than the bling on your finger, in my opinion.

I don't think it would be a dealbreaker, but I can't imagine him getting a ring that I hated anyway. I'm not exactly picky or exacting. I'm pretty go with the flow, actually. He already knows better than to get me anything yellow gold and he thinks heart shaped diamonds are the most ridiculous things on the planet, so I think we'd be pretty much set.

To be honest, I don't understand the question. Why is so much importance being placed on a material item rather than the relationship itself? A ring does not hold magical powers at all and it can't do anything on its own or otherwise. As with anything, it's the thought that counts, Why does that not apply here?

I'd laugh it off and ask to get a different one. Not a deal breaker I say! Unless he's all weird and doesn't let me pick out a new one, then I'd be like, 'can you say controlling?!"

A ring would never be a dealbreaker for me. It was important to me to choose one together, but if he really had insisted on doing it alone and I really didn't like what he chose? I just wouldn't wear it often after the wedding.

We went shopping together to find out what I liked (since I wasn't sure) but we both ended up LOVING a pear shaped diamond on a simple band. I was telling my coworker that we went together and he was absolutely SHOCKED! Apparently not everyone goes shopping together and some guys just pick one out... I had no idea, but I thought it was funny that he was so alarmed. He got his FI a simple solitaire and she loves it, but he asked lots of questions.

I realy dont think it could ever be a deal breaker, But then again i realy could care less about rings. material things for me are nothing, its just a ring. I mean a jerk could give you a $20,000 dollar ring and it may be the best ring ever, but what good is it if he is a jerk? Then you may get a $100 or less ring but get a guy who loves you and is the best guy. i would rather a "Cheap" ring and have a man who loves me then marry a rich jerk.(Im not saying all rich people are jerks"  but maybe thats just me Kiss

Yes it my first post but i have been reading for along time.

No a ring wouldn't be a deal breaker to me at all.  Heck I'm still waiting for a ring anything he gives me will do.  The most important part is not the ring but the fact were on our way to spending the rest of our lives together.

no way! how could a ring be a deal breaker? i mean, come on it's a RING. rings break and stones get lost. i understand that you want something that is your style, but my mom has had to replace her ring setting 4 times already due to various reasons (one being that they had to cut if off her finger when she had an MRI). if you care about an inanimate object that much then maybe you should marry it, not your boyfriend.

now, if he told you that you have to get plastic surgery, because he wouldn't marry you unless you changed your nose/eyes/lips then that would be a deal breaker for me.

Hmmm...I guess I can imagine some sitatuations. Maybe after I told him all about what I wanted, he went and got something entirely different, and just said his was better and then was a jerk about it...but that would require a whole lot of inconsiderateness, and you would think there would be a sign before then. So it is hard to imagine that a ring alone could be a deal breaker.

I think in Carrie's case the ring really got to the heart of their problem, though. It was a flawed relationship. I think if I was in a relationship where I questioned if he really knew me or cared to know me, the ring could be a sign we weren't meant to be together.
