Hello lovelies. You girls are always fantastic at advice, so I have a question for you regarding council housing.
My other half and I are not well off -he pays child support on four children and despite working full time, is not left with much once he’s paid bills and petrol etc. -and I am currently unemployed. I’m 21, and he’s 28, soon to be 29.
I have an interview this Thursday to become a hairdressing apprentice -eeek! It’s my dream job, and I’m incredibly excited. However, the pay is pretty shoddy. I can expect to earn £50 a week.
I have always been reluctant to claim off the council, but I don’t really see another way around my situation. I think as an apprentice I should be able to claim Housing Benefit –is this correct?
However, I may be eligible for priority housing, because as of June, when my contract for my student flat runs out and my soon-to-be-day job is here, I will be have nowhere to live and obligations to fulfil. I can’t stay with my other half’s family as I don’t drive and they live over an hour away from the city, and I can’t live with my mum as she lives two and a half hours away. I have no family and friends I can stay with in Cardiff either.
Any advice you can offer, or any knowledge of the system would be incredibly helpful.
