My fiance and I attended “Making Marriage Work” pre-martial counseling workshops offered by JSSA (Jewish Social Services Agency) this summer.  We aren’t Jewish but we had a center near us so inquired about couples’ counseling and they suggested the course which we took this for 4 weeks, one night a week for two hours.  The classes are secular and are based on John Gottman’s book, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.We enjoyed the class and thought it was worthwhile.  PM if you’d like more info.

JSSA has various locations in the DC metro area.

I work at the University of Maryland and our Family Science Department does Couples counseling.  The fee ranges between $20-$60 per session based on the income of the patients.  You can get more information here.  I’ve known several graduate students who work in the Family Science program and have heard really great things about their counseling services.

When my first marriage was ending, we saw:

Phyllis K Hirschkop
1555 Connecticut Ave Nw, Washington DC 20036
(202) 232-2155

It didn’t work out, only because my ex already had one foot out the door, and was unwilling to work at it.  However, I was really impressed with her.
