I was there a couple weeks ago.  You really don’t need much in the way of insider tricks and tips.  It’s a small resort but never feels crowded, especially this time of year.  The “best” spots on the beach (middle of the beach, under shady trees) are usually taken by 8:30/9, but there are plenty of loungers, especially up toward the water sports hut.

Some must do’s: have dinner at Heliconia (make sure your husband brings long pants or he may not get in), take the free Catamaran cruise to the cliffs, have a candlelit dinner on the beach or in the Tree House (we chose the Tree House and it was amazing), WEAR SUNSCREEN – the sun is brutal even when it’s cloudy, and definitely try the chocolate croissants at breakfast.  Oh, and bring tip money to the beach for the fabulous singers who will serenade you in the afternoons.  They’re awesome.

You may want to bring a Bubba Keg or insulated mug if you like to drink on the beach, as the cups are somewhat small.  They do have the red flag service on the beach, but sometimes it’s hit or miss.  We liked to take our drinks out into the water with our floating mats so a mug was great for that.

Wear insect repellant if you’re prone to bug bites.  My legs are still recovering!

You will have to call to have the minibar restocked every day, and you must stay in your room to allow them in.  This was one of the most annoying aspects of the trip to us.

WiFi works anywhere, even on the beach.

Anything in particular you want to know?

@MrsFutureG:  Can I ask why you went with Couples Negril over Couples Swept Away? We are debating between the two, and I have spent HOURS reading everything I could find online (as well as talking to some very helpful bees). What cemented your decision to go with CN? We are actually leaning towards CSA. It’s so hard! I don’t think you’d be disappointed with either, but we are going for 2 weeks and want to make the right choice.

@MrsPanda99:  For what it’s worth, I think you made the right decision going to CSA.  From what I understand, the management at CN actually moved over to CSA some time back and the service levels are a little higher there than at CN.  We’re considering going to CSA when we go back to Jamaica, but we would not return to CN.

@MrsFutureG:  The hammocks on the beach were rarely in use except toward the end of the day.  Sunset was around 6:30 the week we were there, and people started claiming the hammocks around 5/5:30.  I managed to snag one the first full day we were there and it was lovely!

There are other hammocks hidden around the resort in little alcoves, if you’re not intent on having one on the beach.  I never saw those in use.

@sportsgal31:  We are there for two weeks, and my understanding is that CSA has more of a resort feel, more activties, a bigger beach, a gym, better service, etc. But I guess like everything else, it is subjective. I like the idea of a secluded beach at CN, but I like all the extras/options at CSA. We haven’t booked yet, but I’m 80/20 for CSA.

I will be following this thread 🙂

@MrsFutureG:  Also, I am terrified of the nude beach at CN. Just sayin’

Hahahaha, the nude beach.  Well, I can tell you ladies that unless you wander over to that area, you won’t see anything unless someone over there decides to get into the water.  Some folks kept their floating mats in front of them while they walked, but there was one guy we called the “Proud Peacock” who practically swaggered down to the water. 😉

ETA: I agree on splitting your time.  The resorts are literally a 10 minute drive from each other.

@MrsFutureG: That’s a really good idea. I will ask our agent about splitting the weeks up. We are actually having a wedidngmoon, so I think I want the actual wedding at CSA. I have heard horror stories about the nude beach and my understanding is that it isn’t that private…someone had their wedding ceremony right beside it! I guess I am a boring old prude, but I just don’t like the idea :- lol.

ETA: I will assume they will go in the water…it’s the beach! No, thanks 😛

@MrsFutureG:  Agreed. I have no problem with it in an appropriate, designated setting. I just don’t want to be hanging out on the beach, turn my head, and see a penis. Eep! Or swim beside someone who is naked. OMG, I’d die 😛 FI thinks I’m crazy, but he is happy to just get away for 2 weeks so he doesn’t care where we go really.

We think we will go in April, as we heard it’s a nice month to go (and relatively well priced). I’m also afraid of flying and hurricanes, not just penises 😛 You will have to tell us all about your honeymoon when you get back. Maybe you can scope out CSA for a day. I don’t know if they do the “stay at 1, play at 3” idea that Sandals does (which was way too expensive for my taste).
