i havnt been to either, however i have been to couples negril and let me just say...it was the best trip we have taken yet! very catered to couples only and very romantic as all the couples resorts seem to be! have you been to negril? from my own experience, thats where you will find the best beaches in jamaica!!! very calm waters where you can lay out on the floaties right in the ocean....i might be a little biased but i would vote couples all the way ;) goodluck!
Couples Negril
Been there and cannot wait to go back for our honeymoon. it was absolutely fantastic!
but i hear all the Couples are fantastic and have won many awards
DH and I went to Couples San Souci. Loved it - very romantic, tropical, intimate feel to it. I've heard the beaches are better at Couples Negril but for us, CSS was a bit cheaper, and I loved the feel of the place.
Hidden hot tubs, hammocks, stairs leading all over the place and great views - definitely fit what we were going for. We'd never been to a beachy place before, so we didn't really notice a quality issue beach-wise - we spent most of our day sitting there drinking or floating in the ocean!
Couples Sans Souci & Secrets St. James are both great resorts, but have very different "feel" about them. The PP who described Sans Souci's stairs, hidden alcoves with hammocks & hot tubs is absolutely correct. Secrets St. James (& the adjoining sister Secrets property -- Wild Orchid) are more open & flat. Sans Souci is definitely the more intimate of the 2 properties that you're considering. But Secrets St. James is a quick 15-20 minute ride from the airport, so that appeals to a lot of people. It's adults-only, but not necessarily couples-only at Secrets properties. So you might encounter some adult friends traveling together, rather than it being a strictly honeymoon/anniversary kind of clientele. The best beaches are, as a PP said, over in Negril. So if a "perfect beach" is #1 on your wish list, then you may want to reconsider Couples Swept Away over in Negril. Good luck!
My FI and I vacationed at Secrets St. James in September and had an awesome time. The property is amazing and everything about out stay was great! Like stated above it all depends exactly what is important to you on your honeymoon. Secrets was "adults only" so there were a lot of activities revolved around "partying". We met lots of couples who were honeymooning but there were also a lot of singles around the resort.
Also, we took a day trip to Negril and I def agree that the ocean there was absolutly amazing. I have not been to the beach in Ochos Rios though so I can not tell you what that was like. Secrets is in Montego Bay, which is exactly that: A bay. The water is calm and beautiful, but their beaches are man made so you get a slightly different type of ocean than the "7 Mile" beach in Negril.

If you have seen my previous posts, you know we have struggled in deciding which resort to go with.
We have narrowed it down to Couples Sans Souci or Secrets St. James. Which would you pick and why? OR - which did you pick and why?
Both are similar prices and have 4.5 on trip advisor
