When I had my name legally changed when I was 13, we came home with court ordered document that allowed us to go get my SS card and everything changed.
You can get the court order document at the hearing. That paper can be used to get a new ID and social security card

For those of you who have had to go the court order route to change your name -- on the day of your court hearing were you immediately issued a useable document to take to SS and the DMV to have your cards updated with your new name? I think I'm supposed to take the "Decree Changing Name" doc with me to my hearing. Do I walk home with that at the end of the day?
Or after the court approves your name change, do you have to wait to get your docs in the mail? I was wondering if right after my name change was approved, how soon I could run to SS and DMV...and if I could do it on the same day. I know that they say go to SS first, wait to get your SS card with your new name, then DMV...but if I have a court order, I wouldn't have to wait, right?
Just FYI - I'm in California. I had to go through the courts because the changes I made exceeded the scope of the "simple name change" process for reasons of marriage. Thanks!
