Hi bees! I live in an apartment, which means I can’t really do any major redecorating. In the room we are making the nursery, there is a trio of really hideous, no-longer-even-used outlets on the wall that I cannot remove. Together they measure ~7″ across and ~16″ up and down. The largest of them juts out from the wall ~2″, so hanging something over them is proving to be a challenge. Does anyone have any ideas for how I could cover up these eyesores (and potential hazards to baby)? I was thinking some kind of hollow box, or picture with a very deep frame, but I can’t find anything like that on the internet. Help!

@geeky_bee: Is it low on the wall? Maybe put the dresser or a book shelf in front of it? If it’s up higher, I agree that something like PP mentioned (or make something yourself) could be effective.

@KatieBklyn: D’oh, I didn’t even think of artwork on a canvas! That could definitely be big enough/have enough depth to cover it. I will look around…
@DaneLady: Sadly it’s right smack-dab in the middle of the wall, light switch level. It’s a pretty small room, so I don’t think I can fit another piece of furniture in there besides the changing table and crib.

@geeky_bee: Ikea Ribba frames are perfect for this kind of thing because they have a deep back on them. You can get them in all sizes and a variety of colours and then choose anything to frame in it.

Mrs.LemonDrop: It’s phone wiring, so there isn’t (or shouldn’t be) any power running to it or through it. It’s ugly yes but I doubt it’s against code

@geeky_bee: I would probably check some of the rental codes in your area. I doubt that it’s up to code to have the wiring out in the open like that for precisely the reason you’re worrying about. IMO, the landlord should fix it.
If they won’t, I’d have DH or my Dad make me a wooden hollow box that I could paint a decent color and I’d nail that sucker to the wall over it. The landlord really can’t say anything about a nail in the wall when they’re leaving exposed wires.

@Mrs.LemonDrop: Yeah, it’s an ancient modem jack, so I really don’t know why they haven’t ripped them out by now. It can’t be that complicated!

You can check at the hardware store for a cover. If not I like the idea of a piece of art/canvas over it.

Definitely a stretch canvas painting! Should cover it up just fine, you’d never know it was there. You could try Homegoods or a similar store to find cute nusery art for cheap

Hi ladies! Just wanted to update this thread. I ended up ordering a 16″ x 20″ gallery wrap print (aka stretched canvas) with 2″ depth from ePingo. It was pretty pricey ($55 + $30 for shipping), but I could not find the large size/depth I needed off the shelf anywhere, and at least I got to pick the art this way. If folks like the art, I got it from LillyLaManch on Etsy. 🙂 Thanks again all for the suggestions!

geeky_bee: A shadow box frame is deep enough to cover that. I have one that I change the contents of with the seasons, but you could also make it all about the baby.
mine is similar to this at Christmas
ETA- just saw your update- pretty.
