Fiance and I have had a hard time trying to pick a place for a honeymoon…we are trying to find a nice resort that isn’t crazy expensive…FI’s coworker went to Cozumel, Mexico and stayed at the Iberostar and said they had a really fun time…has anyone been to Cozumel and if so could you share your experience? I know a lot of cruises stop there, I’d love to hear from someone that stayed there (but if you stopped over, I’d still love to hear what you think!) Thank you! 🙂

I spent a little time in Cozumel in 2005. I stayed at Hotel Cozumel, and enjoyed a lovely all-inclusive stay. They had these cute little shows/comedy sketches/skits out by the pool on certain nights. They also had two restaurants and a cafe (I think?) and everything was always delicious.
I went horseback riding, did a snorkel tour, and did a little shopping at the mall.
I had a lot of fun, and since Cozumel is smaller and less “tourist-y” than Cancun, I felt like I could just chill out and relax.
I think I booked through Apple Vacations or something like that. It’s been a while though.

I went to Cozumel as a port stop on a cruise, so I wasn’t there overnight. It’s a beautiful place.
The beaches are gorgeous, but I’d also recommend making a point to see the beauty underwater. I went on a boat that has a glass hull (so it’s like you’re in a reverse fish tank all surrounded by water). If you’re not into scuba or snorkeling, I’d highly recommend that sort of excursion. If I went back, I would probably stay at a resort and do the “all-inclusive plus excursions” thing.
The one negative thing I can say about it is that I was not expecting street vendors in the more localish areas to try to touch me, and it made me uncomfortable. A weird point, I know, but it stuck in my mind.

I’ve been near there, in some less-resorty parts of the Mexican Riviera. I’m really not in to the resort / cruise scene, but it’s an absolutely beautiful area. If you go, you HAVE to go visit Chichen Itza and the Ik Kil cenote right near it!!!!!!

We went to the Aura for our honeymoon. It was alright. It was our first all inclusive and I enjoyed it for the most part, but my husband got sick the last day we were there. (After already having been in Mexico for over a week by then–it wasn’t the water!)
Cozumel is beautiful, but I also really enjoyed Tulum!

I would only recommend it as an amazing dive destination, nothing else. Not to be a downer but there are so many beautiful places in the Yucatan area. Playa del carmen, tulum, isla mujeres are my favourites for beach vacations aswell as visiting the cenotes and maya ruins. Cozumel has one main area that gets overcrowded with cruise ship tourists and the rest of the island is very quiet. It depends what you like, i guess – we get bored staying in the resorts. Let me know if you’d like any recommendations for Playa del Carmen, i lived there for a little while 🙂

I loved Cozumel, but I do think it can be a little boring. I like Playa del Carmen much better.
